Dkh increase
When dosing how much dkh is acceptable per day? I'm at 7.3 and want to get to 8.0.

Do you have corals? What kind?
I'd probably calculate how much baking soda (or whatever you are using to raise alk) you need, dissolve it in a container of water and slowly add over a couple days. If it's fish only, or soft corals, I would add it all at once.

I try to limit it to .5. There seems to be anecdotal evidence that more will cause rtn with SPS.

With Acros, I would play it safe.
How are you dosing now? You might want to run your dosing a little more, testing daily, until you get where you want. 7.3 dKH is a great place to be, btw. Similar to natural seawater.

Then go slow on the increase. Your mag level, too. If you do not get that above 1200 first, you can pour buffer in and it still won't 'take'. A good mg level is 1300-1350. I keep my calcium at 420, mg at1350 and alk at 8.3.

So far I've done 3 - 5 gallon weekly water changes with blue bucket.. brs stated they keep theirs at 8dkh with their blue bucket tanks. Maybe I was thinking the rise in dkh to 8 would be better for coral health? I know stability is more important than chasing the 8 value. I have a 90 gallon. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

IMO, ALK is the one that can change quickly as there is much less in the water. Check every few days until stable, then weekly thereafter. |
