Vermetid snail vs SPS
I have a nice RR Triple shot frag that has encrusted to about the size of $.50 piece. In doing so it either encrusted around a vermetid snail or the snail popped up after, hard to tell. It appears as though the tube is coming up through the SPS. (there are actually 2 small tubes, maybe 1/4" tall)
Should I try to remove them? I'd have to damage the SPS encrusting to do so. thx

You could probably shoot some kalk paste into the tube with a syringe to kill the snail without hurting the sps.

If you had a syringe, you can try to do as journeyman said. If not, I would try to remove it. It will affect the growth pattern. The snail will keep the coral from completely encrusting over its opening and will keep extending its shell. So you will end up with a weird looking "growth".

I have a plating monti that has grown over the vermetid, but it also has a huge spire look to it in the center where the vermetid was. Took almost a year for the monti to finally encrust over it. I'm assuming the worm died because like above, it kept adding to its "shell" as the monti kept encrusting up it.

My duncan has grown over the little tubes of those snails. If its alive and already being encrusted over I would do the kalk paste of needle right in the center to kill it

I guess I am in the minority here. I love it when I get strange growth patterns from different creatures competing on my little reef.
