I ended up hanging mine. I didn't like it that claose to the top of the tnak. I couln'dt get in with my arm for cleaning/feeding and that type of thing. It looks like it only sits 3" off the top of the tank and th fixture is prety thin so I'd guess It'd fit in a canopy.

Did you use the coralife hangers? Have any pics?

edit: Also, does anyone have a "discount code" for aquatraders or know where to find one? Or, for that matter, are there any places to buy this lamp cheaper than aquatraders?

Sorry for the excess of questions, but I really haven't been keeping up on the latest reef goings on (have just been enjoying my FOWLR tank until the CurrentUSA light that I have failed a few days ago...)
I'm pretty new to this hobby (my tank isn't even set up yet) but I've searched everywhere and this is the cheapest MH light combo you are probably going to find. Even the ones on eBay are more expensive. I pulled the trigger on one last week.

I use a DIY hanger with chain and quick links from the local home improvement store. Not the greatest to look at but once the wood work is finished it will be concealed anyways...

OK, sounds like you drilled a couple holes in the top of the light... that's kinda the route I was thinking of going. I had these laying around.

wire hanger
mount

My plan was to suspend the light from the ceiling, but I had wondered if I should just spend teh $20 on the coralife mount.

Mia...I see you are in pittsburgh as well.
I just got a Nova Extreme 4x54 t5 light..and Also have the Orbit 4x65w light on my 75gal...Would you think It would be better for me to sell those 2 lights and get the 48" 760 Odyssea light. It cost less then both the fixtures I have now and 300watt more. Id love to see that fixture in person if you would let me.

I don't believe drilling is necessary. There are two 'L' shaped tracks in the top of the light housing.

If you use the supplied 'feet' the bottom surface of the light housing is about 3-1/4" from the rim of the tank. Distance from water will vary depending on how far your water is below the rim...

Sure thing... pm me and we can set something up. I actually switched from t5's to this light because I wanted shimmer lines. That was the only reason I switched.

I was thinking the same thing..and plus I probably wouldnt have to spend anymore out of pocket if I sold both my lights I have now.

Hell i spent more for the 2 fixtures then this light would have cost. How much room do you have on your tank.
I have a 75g and is there enough room to still get your hand in the tank and such.

Oh yea...where in pittsburgh are you from

It chews every bit of the depth of my 90. The fixture is 48"xjust under 18" Should work on a standard 75. Shaler.

I gotta say, it is a tight fit in my 75 canopy, which should be the same size as the 90's. I'll try to post pics later.

For the life of me I can't understand why people insist on PM's regarding specifics on this light. Please if you have a question about it, this is the place to ask so that others can read and be informed too. Also, many questions I have received via PM are already answered in this thread.

For the one question that hasn't been asked/answered, My temp is steady at 78-79, but it's pretty cool in my house this time of year (62-70) when the lights are on. During the summer months, I may regret the 2x250, but I doubt it as I only plan on running them 5-6 hours max per day, and I do believe that most temp problems come from running MH with a canopy.

Mine sits about 3 inches from the top of the aquarium, and for me it could be a little lower. There is so much light that spills out from between the bottom of the fixture and the top of the aquarium that it washes out my projection screen. When I hang mine, i'll probably go about 1".

I would probably do the same thing I have now on my light..Put a piece of white cardboard along it to keep any light from spilling out.

miata, can the fixture fit into a canopy? the fans are blowing thru the top right? i plan to build a canopy with an open top, basically a 4 sided box with notop or bottom, then put crown molding around it and if possible put the light inside the canopy and thus air circulation thru the top and blocking any light spillage.

When they sell out in a week, you know there going to go up sooner or later. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't get up to 700-750 in the next 3-4mths.

When word catches on that they've got their crap together. They will go up in price I'd garuntee it.

Yeah. What Jorgens said. So let's just let everybody keep on thinking these things are cr@p, OK? Shhh...

Pics as promised earlier of my mounting solution in my modified 75g canopy:

First -- The bracket cannibalized from the coralife mounting kit. Ebay special. Bolted it to a rigged spar in the lid.

Next -- A shot of the canopy clam-shelled open. Wanted to design the arkie-rigged assembly for maximum working efficiency.

Finally -- Looking at the end of the canopy/light assembly. Notice there's not much wiggle room there. Long story.

ohh..about the bulb temp. Did you find out if it was 10 or 20k
How do they look. Do the stock bulbs seem to offer coral growth. Or will they need to be replaced. Can you use the stock bulbs for a while on the tank before upgrading and if so what MH bulbs should I use to replace them. I am going to get the sunpaq to replace the PC's
