You want you run these lights 8 to 12 inches from the top off the water they also need room on top for the fixture to vent right.. best bet is cutting holes in the canopy for the light

that was my plan, is there any issue with the bottom of the led resting on glass? I know the top needs to be free for ventilation but what about the bottom (where there LEDs are)

1.What size tank?
90g 48x18x24
2.How many units?
2 units
3.How high above the water line are you?
I believe 9-10"
4.What were your initial settings on the lights along with your schedule?
I can't remember my initial settings. At night both blues are at 4% then ramp up from 10:30-12:00 RB/B 95%. White ramp from 11:00-12:00 to 75%. Whites ramp down at 6-7, blues from 6:30-8pm
5.Did you over estimate and have to dial your lights back?
I estimated my initial intensities (I believe B/RB 60% W35%) as I swapped from par38 bulb on a 5.5g to a single sol over a 36g.
6.How long have you been running the lights?
One light has been running over a year (11/2012) and the second was added 12/2013
7. New setup tank or previously set up (if previously set up, what were you running?)
Explained in answers 5 & 6
8. 70degree optics or 40 degree?
Stock mix

Trying to figure out this learning curve and killing most of my sps while doing so.

I run 6 on my 180 perpendicular to the front.
Two hours ramping up to 40w 60b 60rb this for 7 hours then ramp down to off two hours later. They are mounted 12" off water.

very good info on here and great tanks! I just recently put new montis in the tank.. Not even that high.. I had my blues at 70 and white and 40.. I acclimated them at 50% blues for threes days.. My tank is 30 inches deep and the lights are 14 inches above the water.. Let me tell ya.. a couple started bleaching.. I moved them to the sand in non direct light,, My chalices w the exception of the mummy eye hate the leds as well.. I really cant believe how powerful these lights are.. Hoping my montis come back... all my sps are doing really well.. I have some growing just above the sand.. My candle light bleached and seems to be trying to come back... Do these usually prefer middle placement?

Hi guys. I need some advice on how much light I should b putting into my tank
I have a 30 gal zeroedge tang with two ai sol blue lights over it. The lights are mounted quite high (aprox 20 in)so they do not obstruct top down viewing. In the tank I have clams lps ans some sps. Nothing seems to grow really. I wonder if the lights are too dim? My settings are w30 b50 rb50. Is that enough? Seems to b lots of light

Took a long time, around 5 months for the few corals I have left to come around. The colors on my sps are actually looking really good. I did contemplate putting my radiums back up but so far so good.

I am running 40 70 70 2 hr ramp 10-12, 7hrs at that then ramp down 2 hr to a rb for for an hour

Cliff I would consider running the lights at a higher intensity and maybe even get the narrow lenses the par drop from that high is pretty big

Hello all, i have had six SOL blu on my 280 gallon for the last two years with no success with SPS. however after getting my parameters in check i just found this thread and i am glad it is still active as it shed some light on my setup. I had my lights 65W 75B 85RB because i liked the look, some of my SPS frags are doing well and others are not (teo blue digitas went brown but are growing). After reading this thread i have dialed my lights back to 55W 50B 75RB and will watch and adjust as i go along. My question is how do i identify the 70 degree optics as compared to the 40 degree optics???

sincerely,

robin

the 70 degree lens has a round circle in the center of the lenses. The 40 degree don't.

I just came across this forum and I am currently questioning my AI Sol Blues. I have not been successful with SPS so far, and the Lfs kept saying more light, but from others on this forum I am looking like less light. A birdsnest I got at thanksgiving has bleached but some month is looking better. I was at W96 & RB/95 as I have always felt like it wasn't enough. I dropped back to W70 & RB/B85 and will monitor.

I ran 2 AI Sol's over my 75g, and then when I built my 210g (72x24x30)I went to 3 Sol's and 1 Vega. All lights are 10" above the waterline resting on top of my canopy. I have had great success. My 210g has been running for 2 years with the same light cycle. Its 12 hours total with 4 hour ramp to 50W, 60B, 65RB peak for 8 hours, then 4 hour ramp down. My lunar is 0W, 5B, 8RB. I'll have to look at the Vega setting, but it is not complicated. Its a pretty simple cycle that has grown chalices on the sand bed and SPS from the 1/2 way to waterline. Growth = always fragging corals to trade and sell. Color = Everyone always tells me how "awesome my tank looks, and they wish theirs was as good".

When I started with the AI lights I stared at 30% on all channels and raised them 5% per week. After a few months I noticed the intensity was too high, so I dialed it back and stuck with the ones listed above. Many have told me online that mine are too low. But This is what I know works.

I have had my SOL blues for over a year now and it didnt start out to good. I to started out way to high. The end result was dead SPS. I think the light settings and lack of doser both had a role but dead is dead. I had one purple cap that was trying to hang on for dear life. I lost birds nest, acros and montis. My peak settings where at 60w 70rb 75b

So I decided to do some more research and step back and punt. I turned my lights down to 30w 40b and 40rb. I bought a duncan and a small colony of zoas. After a month of having these two corals i finally got my dosing cable in for my profilux. I was able to set it up and keep my levels in check. I also noticed my purple cap making improvements. Growing off the plug and onto the rock. I decided to pick up a few more SPS and made a frag rack attached to a mag float. I also increased my lights up 5 every week. Now my peak setting is 40w 50rb 55b. I also decided to not increase it anymore but rather increase the time at the peak setting. I had it set for when it peaked out, it would start to ramp down. So now instead of increasing it 5, I add 5 minutes to the peak. Now after just over a month of this. all my SPS have shown growth. I had also lost another SPS that, not sure the name of it but it went from dead to very much alive and ended up being one of my favorites. So if any of you know the name, please let me know. I have also started dosing Fuel so you will see color improvements also.

Here are some before and afters with the date

Now this is the one im not sure what it is. But you can see the dark green, which is algae. almost the entire coral was covered in algea.

Hi everyone, i decided to jump it and bump this thread which have been inactive for years. I have been reading and reading on AI sol settings on this and other forums and decided to share something>

I have 2 AI Sols Blue mounted on a classic rail 6" above tank parallel to the front glass. I have been playing with the setting recently and settled on an awkward setting (that is why i was reading a lot on this thread). I realized that in order to get the full spectrum look that is a bit purplish (lacking in the AI Sol) i would try the following setting or a derivatives thereof:

- I have been running my AI Sol on average W ~25 , B ~40 , RB ~ 90 and i left it like this for months.
- Just a week or two back i decided to go with this ratio 1x white, 1x Blue, 5x Royal Blue. So most of the day i have w20%, b20%, rb100%, i start at w15%, b15%, rb75%. I found that this combination is very pleasing to the eyes (at least mine). Overall i have not changed overall intensity just the mix of the different colors if you know what i mean.
I had a couple of sps dying but i think it was because i brought my nitrates down from 40ppm, to almost 0-5ppm over a month or so.

One thing i need to note is that from what i heard coral (sps) colors also depend on a mix of nutrients as well as light. You can blast your light higher (gradually) assuming you have enough nutrients in the tank. So relating color just to light is only covering one dimension I THINK.

Your thoughts are appreciated on this setup everyone

I just fired up my old tank and using old equipment which uses AI sol blues, I will report back with anything I think works, looks like my last settings I had before packing everything up was 75% on all 3 settings, which I will change

I was playing around with the settings last night a realized that the royals blues are no longer working which is a big disappointment so I’m searching for sol parts or spares if anyone has any? Or any idea if they have repaired them before. If it’s a total loss then I may just upgrade to the new hydra 52 hd
