Hey tankslave, AKA Lars. I have these on my tank. I could have shown you how I made them.
I made the ring on the end of mine a little narrower and snapped a 1/2 LL inside it. But I may try to mod the other set I have simulate a nozzle more like TheOwns. |

i think your openings look good. as far as the loc-line reducer, the only problem i see in doing it on the reducer is that the water being funneled down to the 1/2 end would hit the side that would be cutout & water would come out the cutouts instead of allowing it to get forced in....so i don't think they'd work
here are a few links to them if you decide to buy more to try..... * bulk reef supply - $2.99 * marinedepot - $5.99 (boy they sure are proud of those huh?? * modularhose - $6.00/pk of 2

Cuts look good. I'd try that reducer and just see what happens. Ya never know!

These look sweet. I know what I'm doing when I get home from work.
I have the store bought ones but they're kind of huge. A couple of thoughts: 1. Would it be any cleaner to do the notches by drilling two holes, off center, all the way through the locline - then notching out each side with a hacksaw? 2. To constrict the flow for a better venturi on other DIY eductors I have used sawed off pvc barb fittings. Nylon also works too. Some sanding and pounding is required for a proper fit. Might be good try on these. |

Snake. Make the openings bigger to draw more water in.
On the adapter. It would work excellent if you were using 1/2" returns. Because the 3/4" bell is much larger giving you space to cut out and the 1/2" for the pressure. The stock peductors are sort of big and intrusive. That's what's nice about this. No bigger than the link itself. |

It "IS" a cool idea, and worth another bump. I'm wondering if those who have been using these for a few years remain convinced about the effectiveness of this mod? In other words, are these REALLY drawing water in and therefore increasing flow? Or is it simply increased velocity of existing flow? Anyone had a chance to properly evaluate the flow increase?
But assuming all remain convinced about the flow increase, these look to be solving two concerns for me: 1) lower profile outlet nozzle so that I can more easily hide the loclines in the rockwork of my upcoming build; and 2) reduced need for a pressure rated pump Great stuff! |
