Carbon after RO/DI ??
Hi guys need some opinions from the forum
Don't hesitate To put your 2 cents in, I do have a 4 stages Ro/DI Last stage being DI. I was wondering If I add a carbon canister After the DI will improve something? Or not? Thanks again

Drinking water systems often include a carbon "polishing" filter post RO membrane claiming it can improve the taste/quality of the water.
I never noticed a difference when my system had the "polishing" filter and I was using it for drinking.. There is no reason to include a carbon filter post DI.

There really isn't anything left to remove. You are better off adding a second DI canister and doing the switching game or dividing the DI with anion in one canister and cation in the other.
Drinking water systems sometimes have a canister after the ro membrane with a remineralization cartridge in it. This adds back minerals to the water such as calcium and magnesium which our bodies can use. |

No the carbon after the DI won't do anything.
If you want to add another canister then add a 2nd DI. Use old DI in the 1st canister and the new DI in the 2nd. This gets all the life you can out of the resin. However, if you are thinking of adding canisters -then look into adding 2 more so you can run the three different types of DI resin Pro Cation DI Resin Pro Anion DI Resin Pro Mixed Bed Resin Then you save money over time as only replacing the most used resin. BRS sells a canister upgrade kit with TDS meter and all. IMHO it's worth it. I took my old 4 stage and added on the upgrade kit. Then converted the canister that was originally DI to pre-RO with an extra carbon. Dropped my yearly resin bill enough to pay for everything Last edited by Pokerman11; 02/04/2020 at 02:03 PM. |

Disagree..I run a carbon after a double DI..who knows what's in those resins? and if they leave any residue..I use a 0.5 or 0.2 micron carbon block as a final.

Carbon filter is installed usually after RO membrane to improve the taste, its not advisable to drink DI water because the resin is not FDA approved.

I run Carbon after my RO and before the DI...I use GFO and Carbon as a loop in the sump.

if you have a 4stage you should already have a carbon block

Carbon will only add to the TDS, thus why you see if after drinking water filters. Its there to balance the ions and protons so the water is stable. (why its not recommended to drink pure H2O)
Someone on here posted who knows whats in those DI resins.... That's someone you don't want to take advice from FYI. This is science not politics. Here we get the truth. Keep digging and asking, just be aware and use common sense when taking advice online. |

The OP did not mention drinking the RODI water. I hope he is not drinking it!
