Keep up the good work. I can't believe it is in your bedroom!
Thanks!

I have a 150 & 200 gallon mixing tanks on the patio/pool deck behind the tank/window which are linked together.

Next, what are you using for the window? acrylic, or glass? if acrylic, then, why dont you open up the holes a little? (a router and a wood template would make some quick work of it)

also, if you have small fans pusing air into the canopy and the large one sucking out, then the little fans could be creating back pressure and hendering the flow more then helping.
(i saw where you are pulling air from the top of the canopy, but can you put some kind of piping from the intake fans pointing down to the water? that way you get more of a turbine/swirling flow. (pushing cold air up and hot air out))

if the stand had holes, you might swap the fan to see what kind of difference it makes sucking the hot air out of the stand? (since the leds arnt putting out as much as the under stand equipment)
or, open the stand doors and see if it makes a big difference. that would give you a hint on what a difference it would make.
Back of stand is open. Window has plexiglass piece where the vents come thru. I was thinking of using a 4" X 4" X 6" Y. Then I could put 2 of the 4" hoses into a 6" Y or T & open the window hole to accomidate the 6" output to fan.

with the back of the stand open, there can be a cloud of heat without circulation... (just a thought)

also, if you open the canopy, does the temperature in the tank drop? if so, then it will be an indicator that its holding in too much heat. (a quick way to tell)

keep moving forward, and keep us updated!!

Do you think this output vent would be better?

only if you take the current one off (while the fan is running) and see if there is more flow. if not, then there are no back flow or restrictions and that output wont help anything.... and the current one isnt hurting anything either.

How are your corals doing under the AI's? How's the heat with that many units running?

Corals are doing well with the AI's. I am batteling some heat issues but I think I am getting them under control with exhaust fans. I have a chiller, just tring to keep it running at a minimum with exhaust fans.

Top of inside cabinet 88 degrees w/o exhaust fan. I have a laser temp gun & have been taking temps all over the inside canopy. I did before exhaust fan & I am adding one more this weekend then will take temps again.

Tank temp this morning before lights came on was 77.3 degrees. That leads me to believe the light are contributing to the heat more than the pumps in the stand.

i would say so.
especially since the pumps run all night, and you have a temp drop.

(just out of curiosity, what is the stand temp? since you have a temp gun?)
it may be giving off heat as well, but when combined with the lights, it causes a temp increase

i know i keep pushing this, but im honestly just throwing out ideas...... (i hope thats ok)

If your stand temperature is higher then your canopy temp, it may be a good idea to run that 2nd fan on the stand. (you could control it with your APEX to come on when the lights start ramping. that way its acting as a temp controller and can turn the fan off after lights out. that may be all you need.
but if the canopy becomes hotter, then deff go with the fan on the canopy.

(also, you have your exhaust ducts facing up to get the hot air, but do you have anything on the intake air pointing down toward the water? i know your in Texas (and i know the weather) and the house air is always lower then your tanks's lowest 78deg, so it may be a good idea to point it down to the water to help with evap cooling and to also push the hot off the surface and direct it is a rolling motion up to the exhaust duct work. )

I am definately open to ideas! I am going to "T" the second fan & have one go to the canopy & the other to the stand. I had also planned to buy some more 90 degree aluminum 4" tubing to face the inputs down to the water to make a swirl effect.

It was a bit of a challenge for me also trying to figure the ramping feature and the timing. I'm a pretty smart guy but i had to watch the youtube vids on the controller just to figure how to get my times right. Got it dialed in and works awesome!

I dont know where you get the idea that they're not hardy.
I've currently got three in my 250 gallon system; a Tomini, a Purple, and a Powder Blue.

The Powder Blue is the new one to my system and I've only had it for about 6 months. The Tomini and Purple I've had for a little over 4 years without issue.

IME, Tangs are more susceptible to ich infections, but other than that, you're incorrect. Just like any other fish, if you provide them with the appropriate conditions, they're pretty easy to take care of.

And just like every other fish, if you stress them out, fail to meet their living requirements, and dont care for them, they'll die on you.

Nick
