tetra brand ripping us off on the filters.. the energizers.motors are the same
So i noticed some interesting little thing today... my 27g hex that had my reef (now in my 60g hex) i converted back to freshwater.. My mom wanted salt too so her 30g tank with neons and platys qas moved to the 27g hex.
Anyway. I needed a new filter. And heater so i went to petsmart and got the tetra whisper 40 filter. Ive used these things for 25 years and they all still run fine. The Whisper 20-30-40-60 all have different flow ratings. And they all have different motors too. The whisper 30 is suppose to have the T2 energizer.. The whisper 20 the T1 energizer. and the whisper 40 and 60 use the T3 energizer. My whisper 3 aka whisper 60 today has the T3 energizer its a 8 watt motor.. My whisper 30 has the T2 energizer which is 7 watts. This whisper 40 i jusy bought is using the T2 energizer.. Sooo Hello... They are putting smaller motors in the (larger) filters and just saying its a 40... Thats BS Im going to call them tomorrow about this.. not very hsppy.. these filters are great basic filters but the flow ratings are not what they claim to be if a whisper 40 now uses tje weaker 30 motor.. I wonder if they thought no one would notice ? Even google and amazon lists the energizer motors t2 t3 ect for the specific filter.. And it doesnt match this 40 i have. I could have spent 7$ less and got the whisper 30 with the same motor so instead i paid more for nothing.. What a lie. Thays like selling an eheim 2213 as an eheim 2217 but use the smaller motor Last edited by candymancan; 12/17/2018 at 12:11 AM. |

It's almost always about the impeller, not the motor block. I don't use that type of filter though so I'm not entirely sure but isn't part of that rating also have to do with the filter size?

7 or 8 watts has nothing to do with speed...
On that type of motor speed is set by the frequency of your 120v power. In fact for most motors that is the case. On AC motors (poles x 60 x hz) gives you RPM. Voltage and power draw have nothing to do with it.
