29 gallon biocube

Stock nothing added at this time. I did remove sponge compartment insert and all bioballs.

about 15 pounds of live and dry rock.

Several corals from my 14 gallon that I took down.
2 clownfish
Couple snails from the 14 gallon.

Just ordered this https://www.reefbreeders.com/shop/superlux/ and some macro algae to put in the referendum(sp) in the back of the tank. Want to head off the GHA if I can.

Got out my bulky heavy SLR that I still have not figured out how to get the best tank photos from and did some practicing. Corals are none to happy about the peroxide dip. But I am sure they well recover They did for the last two I gave them. This one was just a bit stronger. Didn't want to move GHA to the new tank.

Great balls of fire. GHA is growing again already. /sigh
I took the two pieces of rock out that the algae is growing and put them back in the 14 gallon and well try to starve it out. If the mushrooms don't make it they just don't make it.

Ordered a pink mushroom. I just could not pass up cause I have been looking for one for a year now. Also ordered a 1/2 gallon hang on breeder tank to use for my macro algae I ordered.

Snagged picture from http://www.pacificeastaquaculture.com/ These are what I ordered. I am so excited. They are stunning. Hope they look just as good in my tank.

I was reading post again. And someone mentioned it is not good to use life rock in your filter. Guess I need to take mine out but if I do there well be nothing but a little dry rock and I would like to run this without a skimmer. I have one but have not been able to make it work right. I could put it in the display but it is smaller pieces and not sure where I would put it. Hmmm
Maybe just put some in there to help seed the dry rock and remove it later?

At some point my 20L is going to a biocube 29. Love the all in one idea, especially for guys doing this in an apartment or with limited space.

you can leave the live rock alone for now since you should not have much detritious coming into the back chambers and continue to seed your main display tank. You will want to slowly remove it though as the tank matures as it will become an issue moving forward.

Live rock is great to use as a filter, you just have to keep it clean, as liverock in the back chambers will settle detritus back there, and detritus turns into nitrates and phosphates over time (simplification). You can keep it back there for now to seed the tank (which works out well too as if there is any photosynthetic algae on those rocks, it'll die off and won't spread to your main rocks), and then once the tank has been up a month or more, you can remove the rocks. Just make sure to siphon out the rear chambers periodically with water changes. I just do my entire water change from the back chambers and siphon off of the bottom the whole time.

Just whatever you do, don't throw those pieces of live rock away! I need them now to glue new corals too, and you will too once your tank grows out more.

Thank you so much for your help. I did move them to the tank display but will be taking the out once the tank is seeded and the dry rock is live too. No plans to throw it out. Cost way to much for that.

If the macro is chaeto, I would definitely add it to the display tank to absorb nutrients. I cycled with an active refugium. I think it competes with the bad algae for nutrients, keeping the nutrient load lower, and keeping algae from growing everywhere.

You'll still get microalgae and the stuff that snails and hermits eat, but it should just keep some limit on how crazy your algae bloom gets.

Also I wouldn't add caulerpa, only chaeto, as caulerpa will root itself in the rockwork and may be difficult to keep from taking over your rocks. Chaeto doesn't root itself so it's easy to keep floating and separate.

as someone who battled it DO NOT GET CULPERA..... It's root system makes it impossible to eradicate unless you take the rock out and peroxide dip it constantly for a week or so...

The second is almost certainly grape culpera. Get it out while you can. That is what I battled.

The first could be bryopsis and that too is one hell of a fight to get it out of your tank.

the culpera almost certainly will. Unsure about the bryopsis if that is what it is but I would not risk either personally.

Just get chateo

Its young but I kick started it with items from my 14 gallon that I retired. The best part about blogging about a tank is helping others and being able to look back to see where you started and might have gone wrong. lol
