My viper does the exact same thing, have to wait about 20 minutes for it to cool off before I can fire it up again. No worries!

I'm still learning some on how MH work but my understanding is that with an eletronic ballast, you can run any bulb right? I'm not talking wattage, just like probe, pulse, etc.
So with the Odyssea electronic ballast, I can assume that it can power either of these two bulbs? http://cgi.ebay.com/250-W-DE-HQI-14-...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/250-Watt-Metal-H...QQcmdZViewItem

Those are nice shots of your empty tank. The blue looks great. Does it just look like the right color blue because you don't have anything in the tank yet? Mia's started off a little yellow before fading to blue during a burn in.
How long had yours been running before the pics?

Depends on what you mean by burning. If it smells like the powder coat or paint getting warm I wouldn't worry. If it's a plastic or rubber burning smell that is cause for alarm!

those plastic rubber piece are supposed to be there, they are heat resistant and actually hold the bulb in place, in case it could accidentally slide out of the clip. dont take them out, they sell them separetely if you break them for a couple of bucks. |

Mine also had a sulfur type smell the first couple days. An ozone oder of types if you ever work around electric motors. After a week the smell is gone. Everything still works great. Although I'd like a bluer bulb but thats personal preference and not Odysseas issue.
I know it's only a week but I'm hoping it's safe to say we can stop flaming Odyssea.

Got mine yesterday evening, the 48" 760 watt model. I am impressed. Seems rather well built and fired right up (I too removed and cleaned the bulbe like another poster, saw prints on the glass and was worried) . The bulbs are a nice crisp white, not too yellow or blue so far....just right. I think this may be because I noticed when I was looking at the box and on the side where it labels the content it reads something like 48" MH light fixture, 65watt actinic x4, 10000k MH x2. But if you actually look at it the 10000 k is actually a 15000 that someone took a sharpie to to make it read 10000k (perhaps really 15k bulbs?). Aynone else notice or have this? The fan is a little loud but it doesnt bother me since I have a rather large fan on the back of my canopy so its just a little more noise. The MH ballasts barely even get warm to the touch and everything works flawlessly so far. For $359 shipped compared to $700+ for a similar unit I give it an A+ as long as it holds up well, but only time can judge that. BTW- mine smells a bit too, kind of like my tv smelled for a week or so after I got it (52" HDILA )

Could anyone tell me how high this unit sits above the tank when using the mounting brackets? I am trying to decide if it will fit in my canopy.
Thanks! edit: Also, does anyone have a "discount code" for aquatraders or know where to find one? Or, for that matter, are there any places to buy this lamp cheaper than aquatraders? Sorry for the excess of questions, but I really haven't been keeping up on the latest reef goings on (have just been enjoying my FOWLR tank until the CurrentUSA light that I have failed a few days ago...)
