Help With Leather Coral

I have a 29 gallon biocube with a 32 upgraded top. It has been up for about six months and only had two clownfish in it. Last Saturday I purchased a Halloween Hermit Crab and a leather coral from Petco that looked really nice in the store. It has not opened up since it's been in the tank. What could be wrong with it and how can I tell if it's dead? There's also been a ton of brown algae growing since they've been in the tank. Is that unrelated? The leather is at the bottom center.

Leathers can be really finicky, especially when moved, disturbed. It can take a couple of weeks for them to acclimate to the new environment, and it may even shed, which they do periodically. For now, just don't touch it or move it and it should open up for you. Don't freak out if it starts shedding, perfectly normal.

Thank you for that, good to know it doesn't mean there's something wrong with it. Is the placement in the tank ok? It's in medium light and low to medium flow.
