Is Rod still around!?
Man I remember going to Rod's in Dekalb back about 5-6 years ago... Is he still around? I still see his food and I know it was taking over back when I was first getting into the hobby... I bought all the LR for my very first take from Rod. Was wondering if he was still around, and still breeding clowns? Would love a pair for the new build I'm doing.
Just wondering if he fell off the face of the earth or if he's still out there?

I am wondering that myself. I have submitted online a request and have left voice mail messages and no response.

He is still around, but no longer sells clowns or supplies. The old shop is now used for making Rod's Food only.

He's still around, although he is no longer breeding his clowns. He came out and talked at the Rockford Reefers club meeting this month. He gave out some food and T-shirts too!! It was awesome to see and talk with him, as I hadn't seen in years as well.

On one hand I'm happy for Rod that he is so successful with his food but on the other hand I miss going to his shop to buy stuff and get free advice.

I Rod..... Besides the valuable advice, I miss his diy's and tank drilling. Drill + Wesson = great successful tank!
And who can forget about his great lectures on clown fish breeding! Besides all the valuable knowledge in reefing, he is also a great dancer! I too miss going to Dekalb and visiting Rod, seeing all his tanks and feeding Gus (I think that was his tangs name) But most of all, I am very grateful that Rod is still around and is having great success with his food production! THANK YOU ROD!!!! |

I miss all of the Birthdays that I used to have around here. .
I'm still around, or a square. I'd be happy to advise, but my advice is now OLD SCHOOL. Thank for posting all of those memorable pics, Jugs!

Two deep sand beds, a huge skimmer and water changes! It's working for me. Thanks Rod!

I believe the Sohal was "Flash", and the Nasso was "Gus"... Flash would swim through your hand if you made a tunnel for him, and Gus would eat algae from your fingernail if you scraped some from from the side of his trough... both fish with great personality!

Yup. The sohal was Flash - Gus was the large Naso. Gus had the mellowest personality. The kids couldnt wait to feed him and like a puppy, he played along. Liked to be petted
Flash, as David said, would swim through hoops for you. He would also wait behind a coral like a cat waiting to pounce. When the surge tank would discharge, he'd pounce attack the bubbles like a pitbull in a fight - then swim behind the coral and wait for round 2. Did I hear "Deep Sand beds" ?
