I Made some pictures while the lightfixture had to be removed for maintenance. The EZ550reef has grown into a full reef again since the last rescape. The new species that apparently would be "hard-to-keep corals" are also doing very well. The system is so stable that the last measurement I took was already 2 months ago. As an experienced aquarist you learn to recognize signals and you can sometimes sit back and enjoy cruising along, but you must always be aware that it does not turn into overconfidence or neglect. This aquarium has been running without regular water changes since 2015. There was a time when it was thought impossible to do so. Nowadays it is generally accepted that we can do just fine without it . More and more manufacturers are now using it as an argument to promote a product. Waterchanges are great for emergency interventions. They are not ecological and if you have things well managed certainly not necessary as a regular maintenance method. Hi Glenn ,
Quite a long thread and an amazing one to read through . Definitely looking to learn more about your unique method as now Deltec USA has started carrying DSR products . However , my question is really around your amazing butterflies especially Corallochaetadons that you have . How did you manage to get them to eat ? What foods ? What did you do to quarantine them and help with bacterial issues ? Regards, Abhishek |

Glenn,
If you are not performing water changes, how are you replacing trace elements? Very nice tank. Thanks, Dean |

I hope they are as succefull out there as the LFS in here, which account for at least 60% of the dutch reefers. After all the system originated in here. Few butterflies are easy to keep in a small tank with many corals and good feeding. The will eat anything starting with mysis. Some specialist need to be kept with peacefull fish because they can easily het stressed an a itch outbreak often fatal. Keeping a quarantine tank with copper threatment is always usefull. |

I saw many of your old 2-3 year old videos where you got them to eat mysis . How long did it take for them to move to mussels and mysis from live corals ? How did you help them make the switch ? Mine is only 5 days now with me and East nothing other than Sps . Of course I provide with Sps but wondering should I stop and give them only prepared foods ? |

I kept 2 of them for 4 months. They pecked on corals and 1 ate mysis shortly after introduction. The other never did. Later i tried muscles and oysters but shortly after that they both died. I believe i may have overdone it with the muscles, because after i gave then one everyday their poop suddenly changed to diarrhoea, they stopped eating anything and died within 2 day after eachother. Hi Glenn ,
Now that Deltec USA has started carrying DSR products , thought I can change over from ESV to DSR . I k ow this is not an easy answer but if am currently dosing 50mls of ESV a day to maintain Alk at 7.5 , how easy is the transformation to DSR and how do you suggest the switch over ? Regards, Abhishek |
