Feeding fish from my algae turf Scrubber???
Hello all
Just wondering if the fish benefit from eating “some” algae from the turf scrubber. When it drops in the water they crush it! Thanks for any insight. |

I don't see a reason you can't, it's natural foods for your fish

Been doing it for a year. Just be clear on what you're doing...
If you're not exporting, you're recycling. That means that you need to cut the food you add by the biomass from the fuge/scrubber. Your meat eaters will nibble on the pods and worms but it won't sustain them.

I intentionally let some turf algae grow on small rocks in my refugium so I can put them in the DT and let the tangs eat it. Mind you, I have larger nutrient sinks that I export so this is just a small portion of the nutrients. The fish love to eat it though and it allows them to graze like they would in natural setting. Once the rock has been picked clean, I put it back in the fuge. Doing this I'm able to cycle through a number of small rocks on a regular basis. I feel that it provides a nice little "treat" for the tangs and foxface. Plus, the wrasses pick at the pods.
