Start of dinoflagellates or something else?

Can anyone identify this algae growing? Good or bad?

Is this a new tank.
Or may be you added more new rocks to an old tank.
Looking more like diatoms but could be wrong.
Lets see what others say.

looks like dinoflagellates to me. Does it blow off easily? Has it created its own bubbles yet? Check out this link: https://www.reefcleaners.org/nuisance-algae-id-guide

Dinoflagellates are a terrible algae, and the worst of them all! Trust me, there is no other that is worse.

What is your params?

Lighting schedule?

Bioload?

I would recommend reducing your lighting schedule in the short term. You should know that some people have success just with waiting it out, reducing lighting, blackouts, heavy param control, or worst case (and my recent experience) a total tank restart.

Long story short, its a .....

+1, tank age is important, I’m leaning towards diatoms.

New tank at only one month in age...
parameters: NH3 - 0, NO2 - 0, NO3 - 5ppm

Bioload: clownfish pair and cleaner shrimp

Lighting schedule:
11am-6pm. Fluval reef light 2.0 on a timer so nothing fancy

Can you blow it off the rocks easily? Does it have strings attached? Look more like snot? Are there any air bubbles at the end of the strings?

If you answer no to most of those questions, then it likely will be diatoms. Especially with your new tank.
