I have had great success with coral labs ab+ using xr30 gen 4 pros. My Sps success was kalk in the ato and my lights. I downgraded tanks and purchased a Red Sea Max Nano which includes a AI prime HD. While I have had success with multiple primes in the past, I was really missing the Gen4 Radion. So, I just purchased a Gen 4 XR15 pro that I will be swapping for the prime. Someone modified a rms bracket to fit a Xr30 to the Red Sea max nano. Anyone do this? Any idea the best way to cut the bracket cleanly and squarely? I was either going to get a miter saw blade that cuts metal or borrow a band saw.

I currently have 2 Gen4 Xr30 pros on my 5’ tank. I can’t wait to get the 3rd light mounted so I can have a nice spread to cover the 5x2 area. I must say that with these G4’s I notice better color pop from my zoas and the lights same to be brighter than my old G3 pros on the same settings.

This is a little over two years of running three Radion G4's over my 120g.
Tank was started with bare live rock from TBS. Only the big yellow turbinaria came in from an older system. Everything else has been placed as frags. I was always a huge proponent for mh/t5, and it is still my favorite lighting personally, but after forcing myself to run a tank on the Radions again, I can eat my past words and say you most definitely can have a successful tank running LED only. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4g-NbRodqI

Dennis,
Did you ever get a chance to update your PAR readings with the diffusers? Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are running the AB+, but at what % overall intensity? Can you share your lighting schedule? I have (3) XR30 G4 Pro's 12" above the water line on a 48"x24"x24" 120. I'm running AB+ @50% overall. I had the diffusers on, but I saw some bleaching. I was running at 75% with them. I would like to put them back on to block some of the light spillage into the room. Do you find that you have more or less "shimmer" with them? I am seriously thinking of putting them back on now that I have a PAR meter of my own and can check what's going on.

Stunning.
What light program are you running on the Radions? Very relaxing music too. |

I now run at 90% intensity with the lights 17" off the water. It's the AB+ program but I turn down the red and green channels. Lighting starts at 10am, ramps up to 12pm. Then at 8pm it starts ramping back down and off at 10:30pm. I didn't really notice a difference in shimmer with the diffusers. I do plan on building a floating canopy soon. My wife says the blue light messes with her eyes. I might build in some retrofit T5's into it. I think 2+ years is long enough to draw conclusions on this experiment so it might be interesting to add some t5 to the mix.

Thanks for the quick reply.
That's pretty much my schedule. Starts at 8am, ramps to 12pm, 12pm-7pm @50%, then ramp down and off at 10pm. I might start them a little later in the am. Do you have the Red & Green down over the entire program, or only later in the evening? Mine are only at 24% along with the White and Warm White. The rest of the channels are at 100%. I'm using an Apex for control. I did check my PAR, but I will have to get more precise readings, then put the diffusers back on to compare. I am/was a MH/T5 guy. I'm still learning the LED stuff. To many variables. Still not 100% sure, and I still have the MH/t5 stuff in case. Oh and on edit... The Par readings and diffusers will need to wait. Just got a nice big box from Jeff @ LR! Priorities!

Took down my Cadlight 70g tank that utilized the XR15s and diffusers.
Was pretty impressed with the G4 line that I went out to get four XR30s for my standard sized 180g. They dropped perfectly in place where I had a DIY light bracket that held four AI SOLs. My G4s are 6.75" above the water line and after a few tweaks, I run them at 60% on the AB+ SPS PHX14 preset but extend the ramp time up and down for 3 hours. At the 60% intensity and no diffusers, I'm getting 435 PAR 6.5" below the water line, 281 PAR 14.5" below the water line and 232 PAR 19" below the water line. I took one of the XR15 and set it up with the diffuser on a Waterbox 40.1 which is a 17.75" cube. XR15 is mounted with a RMS so 8" above the water line. Running the same AB+ SPS PHX14 but at 80% intensity. 241 PAR 5" below the water line, 180 PAR 13.5" below the water line. As you can see and as I alluded to with my Cadlight tank, the diffusers blocks a lot of light but I won't run the light without one on an open tank concept due to the blinding harmful glare. My XR30s are okay without them since they are in a canopy and I really do not see a disco effect like the previous generations of Radions. |

Are you running the SPS AB+ or the SPS PHX14? I am a little confused, those are 2 different settings. Are these Apex controlled? And if so, can you either share the settings or post a screen shot of the color intensity settings, thanks.

Sorry for the miscommunication.
I'm running the SPS PHX14 preset from 9am to 9pm. 50% (down from 60% as of today) The only adjustments that I do is adjust the 2nd(9:30am) & 5th(8:30pm) point from 50% down to 25% since my peak intensity is only at 50%. I also change the amount of ramp time by making point 3 to 12:00pm and point 4 to 6:00pm. I do not control via Apex. This is what it looks like on my Reef Link: |

Thanks for the reply.
Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear, I’m good with the overall intensity, I am looking to what each channel is. In the picture, just a little left. The sliders. With Apex, I know the different intensities for each channel to simulate the AB+ program. Anyone have the settings for the SPS-PHX14?

Thanks for the added info.
Those seem to be the same values as when you select 14K in the Apex programming. I might give it a try.

WOW 90% at 17”! My lights are 16” above the water and I was worried about running them over 50%... But I guess you use diffusers and I don’t. Maybe I should tune mine up a bit. I will test the par readings when I get a chance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
