I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together, I think you'll really enjoy the extra foot in length.

I can't speak from experience, but I have always heard only good things about ATB Skimmers.

Thanks Richard. I have been happy with the SRO but I really want a skimmer that will allow me to over skim and with reef octopus it seems like they go from skimmers that are rated to around 550 gallons and then jump to 1400 gallons. They seem to have a gap in their line.

Nice rock you've got there.

Have you decided weather you wanted to go internal or external for the skimmer? Are you trying to go for at least double the system volume in rating?

I am open to either internal or external since everything will be in a fish room and I have planty of space. I would like to double the system volume in rating.

I am finding that difficult to do with SRO's. I was all set for the xp5000 but I want something bigger. I looked at the SRO6000 ext but that doesn't really give me much more. The ATB 1260 would be good but I don't think it will fit. The BK Supermarine 250 will fit and that gets me up to 800 gallons but BK's make me nervous with service and replacement parts. Its great that they guarantee the parts will be available for 10 years but at what price????? I emailed victor at ATB for a confirmation on the foot print for the 1260.

Hey Mike,
I remeasured my skimmer area last night and its a little bigger than I thought...its a little over 19" x 17". You are running the sm250 right?

Good looking plan so far!
It is hard to tell from your picture, how big is that sump? Are you planning to have the sump and all your equipment under the stand? Remote sump?

Thank you! The sump is 48x20x20 and made by MRC. All of the equipment will be to the left side of the tank against the wall. Nothing will be under the stand.

more purchases made....

SKIMMER....
I changed my mind on the skimmer and got a great deal on an ATB 10.5 deluxe internal skimmer. I was really impressed with Victor's customer service and quick responses to all of my questions...even on a sunday!

Pre-Black Friday purchases....
As soon as the Black Friday codes started coming out yesterday I started emptying my baskets....

Substrate....Tropic Eden Reef Flakes
Salt...2 x 200 gallon boxes of Reef Crystals
RODI upgrade kit to 150 gpd....no way am I waiting 4 days for my tank to fill up once I am ready
New RODI filiters

Just waiting on Marco Rocks to announce their sale and will purchase more base rock then.

Basically the only thing I have left to buy are fittings, pipes and valves. Once I figure out what and how much I need I will be ordering the valves from Savko and the rest will come from HD or Lowes.

DUMPSTER UPDATE...
Just got the call that they are on their way to deliver it!

Great looking Steve! That skimmer is huge

What sand did you get from Tropic Eden? I think I'm picking up CaribSea AragMax Sugar Grain size for DSB in fuges and Tropic Eden Reef Flakes and Mini Flakes for DT later down the road.

I've heard this sand is amazing an very clean out of the box. I'm thinking I'll need 500 lbs for my DT but luckily I can drive to Premium Aquatics and save on all that freight!
