DYI Skimmer

Has anybody found a DYI skimmer that hangs on the tank and not in the sump.

Hey I have seen a couple of threads about hang on back skimmers, I would try to help find them for you, but I havent paid to use the search feature, sorry. But people have done it, just look at the design of the current hang on back skimmers, I know some one made a tiny spray-injection hang on the back like the aqua C remoras do, speaking of aqua c, check out there website under their custom made stuff that ought to give you some insperation, they have one of there bigger skimmers converted to hang on the back, freakin awsome...

Ight man,

Gods Peace,

It's not hang on tank, but you can make it big enough to sit on the floor and return the water into the tank. Bit of an eyesore, but if you put it behind the tank, it might not be too bad.

DIY CC Skimmer

Easy to build, doesn't take constant tweaking to make it work, and effective.

Do a search on Nano-reef.com for Undertheradar. He makes some really nice ones.

seriously I think if you went to your lfs, checked out one of their hang on skimmers. You probably would get a sweet start there. They are easy to make with pvc. I made one for my cousin the other day. He likes it alot, and for the price, you cant beat it lol.

What size tank? I built the Nano-reef.com Undertheradar skimmer for my old 20L works good. I been following that CC skimmer above and plan to build one soon. He's made a hang on version that I thought about building for my 29, but I decided just to build the big boy as I'll be switching over to a 125 at the end of the year.

I've always wondering if it would be worth it to make a very tall and skinny recirculating needlewheel skimmer that would fit behind the stand and go from floor to the top of the tank. maybe buy a 6ft length of 3" or 2.5" clear acrylic tube and plumb a couple of Gen-X 1000 needlewheel pumps onto it near the bottom of the skimmer body. Then the bubbles would have much more dwell time than the average hang-on and it wouldn't look any different from the front than a hang on...just a thought...
