Thanks, most non-reef-visitors think the angler is cooler than the whole reef

A small group of corals

The two P. multifasciata starting to like each other

A new overview

You have a good memory! It actually got so big, that it kind of obstructed the aquascape. It is in another tank now but of course I kept a few frags to start again

It did hurt a bit to remove it as I had it for about 10 years, but the tank looks way more open now...

This has been one of my favorite tanks and was my inspiration in changing from 250 watt HQI's to 150 watt HQI's. Though I have gone back and forth between the two over the years, I have stayed with the 150's on my current tank. I know the tank has undergone some changes in equipment over the years, but one thing has remained, excellent husbandry and the proper selection of equipment. Thank You for being one of those people who inspired me and still does.

For those that do not know this is a past TOTM, here it is.

Tanu,

Is your orange spot file fish well behaved? Ive always wantwd one really bad but I always thought they were not reef safe.

Btw you have an amazingly gorgeous reef.

Jack: thank you! I really liked the 150 W's. I did 'upgrade' to 250 W's a few years ago, but apart from more algae and more heat that didn't change a lot. The leds are a different story though, I will never switch back! It's always nice to read about other tanks, many times you will get ideas for improvements, often small but leading to large changes. Thanks for mentioning the TOTM, it came as a huge surprise, I still don't know who nominated me. It was a real honour to have my previous tank been featured in the past. Of course I keep my tank for my own enjoyment, but it was a true honour to me to see that others chose my pride to be featured.

Saltwatersensei: the filefish isn't well behaved at all, it continuely grazes on the corals but as the growth isn't stunted that is ok to me. Of course the size and health of the coral population determines if the tank can support such a fish. As long as the corals don't suffer I don't mind fish being not completely reef safe.

Today I made a 20% water change and took some pictures while the water was flowing.

Thanks! I took a picture for you, if you mean the one in the picture below you're not the first to ask. I've never seen any tentacles during the day, but during the night they are expanded. I have it more than three years and it does grow. I do have more Fungias in my tank, this is the only one with this behaviour and I do like this variation.

Just took a small video today. Unfortunately there are some scratches on the lens of my camera, so the video isn't as clear as it should be... Sorry for that.

Hope you enjoy it though

Your tank is absolutely stunning, Tanu!

Would you mind sharing with me how well behaved your orangspot filefish is with all of you SPS corals, acros especially, in the tank?

Thank you It suddenly disappeared, I had it for about two years now. The answer on this question depends on your definition of 'well behaved' I guess. Even though it ate frozen and flake food very well, it never stopped picking at the sps, especially Acro's. I definitely will miss this fish but am not sure if I will try to get a new one. The tiny one I bought didn't make it past the first few days, it had already lost too much weight in the transit to the lfs where I bought it.

I did find something else though, a Chaetodon mitratus. A mitratus or tinkeri was already on my wishlist for many years and now it is in my tank since October 27th

I did just take some new pictures of the tank though, I hope you all enjoy

Thanks Kevin. I really like them as well, it just took me some time to find small specimens. As I read that they don't really shoal, but form bigger aggregations which actually is just a group of pairs, I decided I should just keep two of them. I have them for about 6 months now, they are really peaceful and very beautiful. Just like the green reef Chromis, they need to be fed multiple portions through the day. So far, I can recommend them.

Thank you Daniel. Mine puffs up a bit at night, but I've never seen a single tentacle during the day. It is not a plastic coral, this is proven by the fact that it does grow slowly and that algae won't grow on it

John, thank you. I really enjoy watching it. There are so many awesome fish available, it's very hard to choose...

Luckily system is able to handle the waste of the fish, I checked the water quality last week:
Salinity: 1.025
KH: 8
Ca: 430 mg/l
nitrates: 0
Phosphate lower than 0,03 mg/l

Ricordea florida

Euphyllia golden torch

Acropora sp red dragon

Palauastrea ramosa, a frag of a 'new' coral in the trade!

And a new overview picture.

I wish you all great holidays

Merry Christmas Tanu!

Sadly, the pictures arent loading for me....

Although based on everything else you've ever shown us pictures of, your latest acquisitions are surely gorgeous as well...

Nick

Merry christmas to all readers of this topic. I managed to escape from the christmas-duties for a while, so I can upload the pictures again. Strange enough, they are visible on my laptop, but not on the tablet?

Acropora sp. red dragon

Euphyllia sp. golden torch

Nice Ricordea florida (I think it's nice anyway )

Palauastrea ramosa

Latest overviewpicture

Let's see if the pictures will show up now and have a great day
