Just finished reading all 51 pages of your build thread. It is an absolute joy, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.
I noticed that you don't have a chiller and just use a fan. I was always under impression that with MH you can't get away with that but your example proves otherwise. Can you comment on that?

I don't mean to interject, but depending on many factors MHs can be used successfully without a chiller, or in some cases without fans. Many of the newer/better reflectors allow users to hang MHs higher than in the past, sometimes 16" or more off the water. This keeps the heat from raising the temperature of the water too much.
Also keep in mind how your canopy is setup. I have my 400w MHs hanging in an open air space, and because of that I don't even use a fan. I only see peak temperatures in the heat of summer, and even then it is 82-83. |
