Flame Angel fish!!!LPS safe

Ok sorry to askI have heard from many that this cool fish will eat LPS but I keep seeing it in LPS tanks. And even in my local LFS? Does anyone have this fish with success thanks.

Coin toss. Mine has been great but I have a few acquaintances who have had to get rid of them due to nipping corals and/or clam mantles.

Your prob at a 70/30 chance. 70% your gonna be ok & 30% you'll have a nipper. Most every flame I've ever seen or that I've owned had been harmless but I've read enough threads of folks having to get rid of them for nipping.

you may be ok with Corals but clams in my exp is another story entirely

Don't do it! Angles and Butterfly fish have always been a problem for me. Just get a Chevron Tang if you want a bright fish.

My flame angel kept my trachy from opening. I took the angel out and the trachy is huge now.

As with any fish it is luck of the draw. I have several LPS (hammers, torchs, acans) and have never seen my flame touch any of them at all. But you may get a flame that won't leave them alone either. It is no sure thing.

Like everyone else is stating, it's a hit and miss.
Mine is doing fine in a LPS dominated tank.

Depends on the individual fish. Flames are one of the "safer" pygmy angels. I have one now in a LPS/Softies tank and have no problems. I do keep him well fed though. I previously had a coral beauty, another of the "safer" species that would not leave my Trachyphyllia alone. If you have a good LFS that is willing to take one back if it doesn't work out for you, they are worth a try IMHO.

My FA attacked my LPS like crazy. Favia's, Acan's, and Micromussa. He would pick at all of them.

Like I said, don't do it! Angels are hard to catch unless you like tearing a tank down! Chevron Tang is just as pretty and way more useful!

Everything eats Trachy's. Even Yellow tangs will sometimes take a taste!
Type of LPS/SPS is also a factor here.

my flame angel kept both my trachys small too... as soon as i took it out, it is huge all the time... never had a problem with any of my other fish bothering the trachys... everytime the flame angel swims by it would nip at it...

That is a Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis (Chevron tang) juvenille colors. They're very drab once they turn into adult colors IMO. They also attain a size of 8-10", and IMO are no way comparable to a flame angel.

As many have mentioned in this thread most angels are "hit or miss", but keeping them very well fed, with plenty of tankmates (no boredom) will help, however I steer clear of any "puffy/fleshy" coral like brains, acans, micros, etc.

They stay very un-drab for a good period of their life.

well I bought one from the LFS he has been a very large coral frag tank with tons of corals LPS mainly even claims, for months. The guy said he never had a issue with him. I keep him well feed and he has not nipped anything so far.

I don't know if it makes a differance or not but I have a flame angel in a mixed reef, which includes a frogspawn coral. I bought a very small/young specimen and he has never bothered any of my corals even now, as an adult. I knew it was a risk when I purchased him. May be I just got lucky. Worth the risk IMO.

"Meaty" LPS as said, are at greatest risk. Clams, also. They might also attack Zoas, however nothing attacks my ugly zoas that hitch-hiked on my LR.
Flames are usually listed as "medium risk".
Factors to consider:
Smaller angels are lesser risk, mostly.
Keep 'em FED 2-3x daily MINIMUM.
Avoid the "temptation" corals. Like I said, Trachy's, Lobos, Cynarina, Scoly's.
Bigger tank reduces risk. So to does amt. of corals & other sessile inverts. THE MORE THE BETTER.
Oppurtunites for other activites/ interactions with other fish.

No guarantees, but then again, my least Reef-Safe fish has been my ocellaris clownfish, who has injured by knocking over/ ramming coral colonies. Killing at least 4 different colonies.
