OK......any ideas how to install one or picts? I get what you are saying, but just cannot picture how it needs to be set-up

Re: Re: mod for MJ600

For MJ600 I would suggest 1.25" Hobbico Nitro Hammer props.

Depending on how you built them, The MJs can take a lot of punishment. But do you really need such short on/off intervals?

There will be noise when the pump is switched on and again depending on the build this can be loud or barely noticeable.

D.
I don't have a strong need to alternate my pumps every minute, I was just curious as to what kind of abuse they could take. I'll probably set the period on my wave maker somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes (I'm using an aquacontroller Jr.) but I also have a SCWD working on my return (about 600gph), so the tank will have pretty random flow no matter what. Really, I just don't want the stream from my mods to be a constant force in one direction. I may even have a period where they aren't on at all... like 5 minutes left, 5 minutes right, 2 minutes no flow and then repeat. (Just an example). I don't know if that would accomplish anything but would be curious to hear anyone's opinion on the matter. Thanks for the advice.

Because the maxi jet runs on alternating current (AC) power it can spin both left or right and will do so randomly
when you first plug it in. if it starts going the right way then perfect but half the time it will start going the wrong
way and end up sucking water in the front and blowing it out the fins on the side. This is where the stopper
comes in. the stopper is simply a piece of acrylic rod shoved through the side of the housing. I drill a 3/16” hole
about a 1/8” below the top of the housing (just under the cap) and glue a ½”-1" piece of 3/16” acrylic rod. What
happens when the pump starts the wrong way is it pushes the whole impeller up towards the cap when this
happens the prop will slam into the stopper (acrylic bar) and bounce back the other way and start running in the
right direction.

snarkys

i just bought a seio controller for that vary reason, to run my diy maxi mods. now the controller is up for sale.

it would run them fine at high speed but at low speed they would spin and pump water fine, just make a rattling noise when doing so. also i thought that the seio controller ramped the speed up and down, but in reality it just steps it from 50-100%. so all in all it doesnt work very well on MY mods, however i have never had any issues with MY mods when running them on my chauvet timer switching at 2 min so go figure. guess it's just another TAAM product .

I know it was probably already discussed in here but how can I mount a Maxi 1200 mod halfway down the side glass? I want the pump to be in the middle of the side half way down.

Are there stream DIY kits for the Hagen 802 powerhead (like those sold on mjmods.com for maxi)?

Where do you get the magnet mounts? I didn't like the extended arm on mjmods.com, are there any other choices for the Maxi-Stream?

My mod started to make a bit of noise again, so I pulled it apart again to visually inspect. I found that the imbalance of the propellor had caused the CF rod to wear the rigid airline so the hole is now oval.

OK, fair enough, so I need to rebuild, and this time balance the propellor. How do you guys do this? Do you balance the propellor itself or after it's assembled to the shaft and magnet?

THanks,
-J

Ah well you kinda answered your own question on that

Sounds like your shroud is too restrictive while not providing enough inlet area for the propeller to suck in water.

Less inlet=less flow.
