1073.020 or 1073.040?

I'm using a special eductor nozzle on my tank that creates a random flow pattern through a helix of channels. The sweet spot to get the most randomized effect is 300-450gph. I'm currently using an Eheim Compact+ 2000. By my calculations I think I might be getting close to 200gph with 40" of head and a couple of elbows. Which pump would you suggest to get me to the lower end of the sweet spot?

The difficulty is in figuring head loss to the eductor, a 1073.050 would do around 550gph at 4ft of head, so it is a safe bet especially since you can adjust the speed. 1073.040 does around 450 and has a mechanical flow adjustment.

I figured the .020 wasn't even in the running. Like you I prefer slow flow through the sump. On this particular tank however the return coupled with the random flow eductor is the sole source of flow. It's a small REEFER Nano system housing LPS. The 9004 should be unaffected by the increased flow as it is in the 9004.500

Yeah, at 4ft the 02 only does around 250gph, it drops off fast for head pressure and is better suited to running reactors.

How did you get the 9004 into the sump? I have the reefer 170 and I was unable to use my 9004 because the sump water depth was too shallow.

He is using the new sump kit version, basically a 9004 inside a body about like a 9410 body with a small feed pump, 9404.500 is the canister and pump, 9404 is the complete set with skimmer. The drawback is you need almost the room a 9410 takes up.

The container works really well and fits in the REEFER Nano sump with room to spare. I'm not using the sock currently as bubbles escaping aren't an issue and I don't need additional mechanical filtration. I find the 9004 perfectly sized for the Nano. I get very consistent foam production without the fluctuations I had experienced before with larger skimmers.
