ISO Aiptasia Eating Filefish

Anyone have a file fish guaranteed to eat Aiptasia they no longer want? I have a few aiptasia in my tank that I want to get rid of (not enough for berghia nudi's and peppermint shrimps aren't doing the trick).

Looking to own one, hopefully one that would leave the rest of my corals alone

Let me know and your price (or if you want to trade, maybe I have something)

Fwiw I just picked up a half dozen peppermints from advanced marine aquatics. And they rid my tank of aiptasia in about 1-2 weeks. But they also had file fish there too.

I have about 5 peppermint shrimps and they don't do anything. Had them for a few months now and no changes.

I may take a trip to AMA this week

We had a pretty bad outbreak of aiptasia as well. I added 17 peppermint to our 290g display. Took them a bit to start making a dent, but about 8 weeks later, we had zero aiptasia. They even tackled the larger aiptasia that I didn’t think they’d touch.

I will add, I did feed lighter during those 8 weeks to ensure the shrimp weren’t filling up on foods, and not aiptasia.

Definitely keep regular feeding minimal to make them scavenge for thing. In your case the aiptasia. I’ve heard they can be hit or miss when it comes to eating aiptasia. I’ve also heard the same for filefish. I believe it’s a specific genus that has the appetite for it.

If you only have a few, can you get to them with a majano wand?

I've had great success with the filefish. I never could get the aiptasia totally eliminated and now the filefish has kept me clear for 2 years+, and it's a fish with personality. I had limited success with the majano wand - the aiptasia kept on growing and getting worse. I could never get a peppermint to work.

if I can find a wand to borrow, I'll give that a shot

Aptasia X doesn't work. It comes back, same spot. even tried hot water and lemon juice.

Have you also tried hydrogen peroxide in a syringe. The only problem is you really need to inject it at the base of the pest. Usually as soon as you’re that close they’ll close up and make it difficult. Especially if they’re small.

Ive found its hit or miss with peppermints, I read somewhere it may have to do with the region of the world they come from. how is advanced marine aquatics? Ive never been there, looks like a hike for those of us in central suffolk.

Personally for me it’s def worth he trip from north Babylon. Nick and Andrew and real stand up guys. Been dealing with them for a while even since before and advanced marine was established.
