What precautions have you taken regarding power outtages and preventing back siphoning and flooding?

Beautiful tank BTW.

first of all thank you!

the sump is large enough to contain all the water in case of an power outtage
I also drilled some holes in the outlet so it sucks in air as soon as the power fails

i´ve tested it and it seems my calculations have been correct and I also have enough room left for even more water ^^

Gorgeous tank. I love the corals. Especially the acans. I am so jealous of the access you have to Aussie Acans. That would be a small fortune here in Canada. You don't seem to have much fish in the tank. I saw only one clown in the pics? Yet your skimmer's pulling gobs of filthy stuff. Are you hiding the bioload from us?

Glad to hear it. I could not imagine you not planning for that possibility, bit was curious to see what precautions you had taken. Your method is the same one I use and its never failed.

I do the math and figure out how much water my tank return will drain into the sump, (Length x Width x depth of return in inches, divided by 231 = gallons) and ensure my sump can hold that much water.

Check valves are a flood waiting to happen.

thank you!!
I have to admit I´ve had a lot of luck getting aussie Acans here in Austria. A friend of mine imports them so I have first pick most of the time!

Fish:
1x Zebrasoma Scopas
2x Macropharyngodon ornatus => a pair
2x Amphiprion percula => a pair
2x Gramma loreto => a pair
1x Synchiropus splendidus => soon to be paired and an AUSTRIAN offspring
1x Koumansetta rainfordi

coming soon, meanwhile in quarantine since 3 months:
1x Acanthurus leucosternon
7x Pseudanthias squamipinnis => a group I got from a friend of mine who quit the hobby
1x Chelmon rostratus

OMG sorry I had read your nick as "flo from australia". My scanning method of reading failed me. I saw aussie acans, saw "aus" in the nick, and stopped reading the rest of the letters, just assumed "of course, aus as in australia!" lol

So did you have to mortgage your house to buy that many acans?

A while ago there was a rash of t-shirts in Austria with a picture of a kangaroo in a red circle with a line through it. Australian tourists didn't get the joke.

It was our idiot pres. O'blahblah who messed that one up a few years ago.

We had a German exchange student for the year up until last week. At least he knew better.
Neat tank by the way. Makes for an interesting and unique view....
Daniel.
