Anyone Carbon Dosing/Bio Pellets?

Was wondering whos doing it here

I decided to give it a try, Plus I want to add a few more fish. My rocks are kinda fuzzy. Due to my turbos dissapearing. I believe my Melanurus Wrasse has a taste for Escargot.

Plus, Hey, I wanted to try something new.

I got a deal from MD 15% off the Reactor. So I took advanatage of it. There are more expensive reactors but I liked the performance of this one. I watch a lot of YouTube. Its being powered with an MJ1200.

Output Running to the skimmer Intake

Im using the BRS pellets. Doing the recommended dose for 50 gallons. I dont really plan on going higher than that. I went the BRS pellets because I have 2 bags of it. I know they have new All In One pellets now that have GFO. But This is what ill be using for now.

I know you have to go slow so thats why I went with 1 cup and not the full dose. Let me know what you guys think/Experiences

I don't run a reactor now, but have been considering the BRS dual reactor for carbon and GFO.
In the past I've used Chemi-Pure Elite bags in the sump, but I didn't notice a any decrease in algae; and stopped using them after I had a bag break, and pumped carbon into the display.

Also been trying to figure out if I should run GFO, or Phosban, or Phosgaurd.

I meant GFO, "Phosbond", or Phosgaurd

People seem pretty happy with the Dual Reactors. I have a single one that I use.

I've been waiting for BRS to get the dual reactor with pump combo in stock. It's been out of stock for the last week or so. I believe the pump is what is out of stock. You save about $10-$15 if you order the combo.

The pump that they are using is an MJ1200. Thats crazy that they would be out of that.

Just wanted to suggest the Aquamaxx GFO/Carbon Reactor. I noticed it came with a pump too. On MD

Yes, I'm running pellets. Using a Next Reef SMR1 and the EcoBak pellets. I had a aquamaxx before. Also had a Reef Dynamics but never happy with it. Using a Eheim compact 1000 pump. I run GFO also. The pellets work fine. Just don't overdo it.(use too many)

I used Chemi-Pure Elite but ran in in my reactor. Worked much better bags in the sump. Now I just mix carbon and GFO and run it in the reactor together. Works good for me.

Did you have an issues with your skimmer over flowing? So far I like the AquaMaxx

I like that the BRS reactor can be mounted up out of the way, in my cabinet. I'm not sure how the Aquamaxx will install. In the sump? I don't really have room.

I also think changing the media would be easier with the BRS reactor, just like changing filters on my RODI. I don't have any experience with a reactor so these are just assumptions.

Here is an interesting thread on running GFO.

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...ght=phosphates

I found it interesting that he does not recommend running GFO 24/7/365, but rather as needed when Phosphates are high.

The Aquamaxx goes either in or out of the sump. I have one for sale as a matter of fact.

Officially done with biopellets. Tried running 2 times and had mixed results. This last time things seemed to be going well and then the cyano outbreak started and that was the last straw. Just to many little problems associated with. Started using Red Sea NO3:PO4X and having great results so far. Nitrates starting dropping right away. Similar to vodka doing.

Nitrates

Mike,

Yeah, I'm having good luck with the NO3:PO4X. Nitrates now down between 5-10. No downside that I've noticed so far.

Lol

Mike,

Yeah, Pedro would probably say that. LOL. No thanks. The NoPox4 is working fine for me. Sitting on 5ppm nitrates with no pellets or scrubbers to worry about. Just dosing 10 ml daily and I'm gonna set that up on a dosing pump. MUCH easier.
