Filter Sock Maintenance
I got a sump about two and a half months ago and never really had to ever deal with Filter socks. Now as of the last 2 weeks I'm finding the filter sock is getting clogged every couple days. I typically take the filter sock and run under water and squeeze and rinse it out but I never use any kind of safe cleaning agent (vinegar or citric). I have 2 questions:
1. What are you all doing to keep these things filtering correctly? 2. Have any of you given up on them, created a basket and lined with filter floss instead of using these things. Thanks

I wait until I have a bucket full of used ones and put them through washing machine with some
Bleach. Run rinse cycle before to make sure soap is gone and I usually run a second rinse to make sure bleach is out. If you want to keep using them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Remove the socks and be free of the slavery. Mechanical filtration is not necessary. Use them for temporary situations only, like after you've stirred things up in the tank.
