How many "fish per gallon" in a nano?
I saw a thread on another forum that did a poll on how many fish per gallon, and it made me wonder if the results would differ if applied only to nano reefs. Just divide the number of fish by the number of gallons then report the results here.
Please... -Only respond if you have a nano tank (34g or less) -Use only display gallons in calculation -Reefs Tanks only (No FOWLR, ETC.) I'm hoping this will provide a very general guide to stocking a nano reef! |

I have a 29g biocube that holds 22 gallons of water, and I have 5 fishes. I wouldn't recommend any more than that, though of course fish size and appetite come into play. Also, the smaller the tank, the more gallons per fish required IMO.
I'd recommend no more than 1 fish per 5 gallons. |

Thanks to all who have replied... Can you see the Poll at the top? I haven't gotten too many responses so I want to make sure it is working.

How big is the tank? Given the right conditions that Setosa can become a monster, almost outgrowing the fish... So in other words, how much space do you want to give that fish?
By the looks of it that clown is outnumbered by the frags... Almost a coral garage sale... Last edited by AlSimmons; 09/11/2017 at 01:31 AM. |

I did go a little overboard on the corals. I've given 5 frags to a buddy and kept all the high end. Don't ever participate in eBay auctions and live sales... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You also have to keep aggression in mind. If you get a very aggressive fish, then that kinda reduces your choices, even tho you are under the "fish per gallon" rule

There are a lot of things that need to be considered when stocking a aquarium. This is simply to provide the basic number of fish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
