Re-using coral skeletons for Ca reactor
I have a whole bunch of dead LPS skeleton from a system I purchased. It seems like it would be really useful to crunch it up a bit and use it for a calcium reactor. My only concern is making sure that it's clean and pest-free. I know drying it out will certainly help. What other precautionary steps should I take? Baking and/or boiling seem too dangerous. Bleach?
What have you all done? Thanks! |

Me too but from my own system and "after it is dry".
So let it dry out to be safe.

Thanks guys. Definitely going to let the stuff dry out for months. I don't need it yet and I still have some other media. So it'll be a while before I will use this stuff.

I soak them in some water with a bit of bleach for a day or two. Then soak them in clean water with dechlorinator. Then rinse and let them dry out. Then crush em up and put them in the reactor.
