Skimmer going mental.

I have a 100g mixed Reef with a Bubble Magus Curve 7 which I've had for about 6 months working perfect. All of a sudden, with no changes to anything, it's started going mental and spilling over the top within seconds of turning on. I've had to put the output tube into the sump and leave the valve open.

Thought it would sort itself out after a couple of days but been like it for two weeks now. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks. Steve.

Take the pump apart and clean it. It’s possible you have something in the needle wheel or salt creep in the venturi input on the pump where the airline connects to the pump. Skimmer pumps should be cleaned every 4 or so months for best performance and longevity. If salt builds up in the air intake at the pump, it will almost always cause an overflow just as when something gets into the needle wheel such as a snail or even pieces of algae or debris.

Once a dried out Instant Glue tube fell into my tank and caused my skimmer to go crazy like what you are describing.

Cleaned it all by the way. Spotlessly clean however still doing it. It's not been working for about 6 weeks now but everything seems fine in the tank. Shows how much you need a skimmer. Lol.

Have you used any epoxy to glue some new frags down recently? Epoxy use makes my skimmer go nuts for a few days...

No mate. Nothing. It's been doing it for about 6 weeks now! If in raise it up a little it should stop it. Will do it over Christmas.

I hate to state the obvious, but did you change the water depth in which the skimmer sits?

No, it was exactly the same. It was like literally overnight it started spilling out for no reason.
