You have a beautiful tank. I was wondering my tank is 32 inches deep and how do you keep the coralline algae from growing at the bottom. My problem is my corals are in the way for stuff i can buy. So i see your stuff is growing nice and was wondering how you clean it? Thanks

I'm not cleaning coralline algae on the bottom. In places where I don't have corals, it can grow but I cant notice it at all.
Every water change I vaccum the bottom too.

Thanks ATTY. Those are 90 degree optics, since my tank is 35 inches deep.

18 blue and 42 white, meaning ratio of 0.3-0.7 .

What are your thoughts on the ability to dim LED's? The orpheks make one of the nicest LED units to date, but surely theyd get alot more people purchasing them if they had the ability to ramp up and down.

I consider the dimming a nice gimmick. I will not recite the manufacturers explanations but I don't even have the chance and time to enjoy the dimming since I'm not at home at least when "dim in" starts.
It has no advantages for corals what so ever. I never used this option with the metal halide system nor T5 so I don't need it.
If it was a part of the setup, it could be nice but not more than this.

thanks, yeh im in to worlds about dimming control. ATM theres no hard evidence that dimming is beneficial for corals and fish. Have you seen any other LED units in person? and how did they compare to the Orphek?

2. I heard that you can decide on how many blue vs white LED bulbs you get per fixture (why did you choose .3 to .7)?
3. What does the 90 degree thing mean?
4. I'm thinking of building a 600 gallon build 96"x48"x30"tall...how many fixtures and what degree (60 90 120???). Just thought I'd pick ur brain!

I saw the fixtures on my friend's tank. I liked the colors, the coral's reaction to it and the look of the fixtures.I inspected the technical info' and I was convinces to test it on my tank.

I heard so too. I chose the basic version since I've seen it and been satisfied enough. I don't like too much blue or artificial light and coral reflexion.

90 degree means that the spread of light is not wide but penetrates deeper. Since my tank is 34'' , I decided to use the narrower lens.

for this wide tank I'd use 8 fixtures if you plan growing SPS corals.

I noticed your tank is used in the orpheck promo photography for the new DIF100 Multi Chip LED Pendant.
I have been considering using a couple of these as supplimental lighting to highlight certain corals.
At the moment it is a toss-up between the orpheck or the cannon led pendants. TBH cannon are edging it for me due to the swivel brackets.

Can I ask your opinion on the orpheck led pendant lights?

The results were:

Under the white\blue led - over 3000 Par

water level (12'' under fixture-out of water) 1250 Par.

Top water surface - 950 Par

5'' in water 820 Par

Tank bottom (35'' under the surface) - 250 Par

Do you need it for extra blue/actinic look? If you do, I must say it has a great look. I'd like to use one more unit for my 95'' long tank.
As for the comparison to Cannon fixtures, I can't add my opinion.
The effect of the DIF100 Multi Chip LED Pendant is more spread than other led fixtures and I can say it's more like MH spread used their wide angel lens.

Thanks for sharing. Those are some impressive numbers. You've been up and going with these for a while now. How is the growth? Have you seen much difference in switching out of the MH?
