Heh you lost some of the harder fish out there especially the wrasses. I lost my butterfly and soldierfish but that was because I let ammonia get too high in my Q tank.

My yellow eye kole and naso are doing great. They've been eating anything and everything that goes in the tank and have been playing together since I put them in.

I'm sorry to hear about all your guys' losses though. That's a real bummer. :-(

Sad but I lost my orange shoulder over night. Yesterday I had noticed it was acting shy and reclusive. I knew something was wrong since this fish swam around activly from the second it was added to the tank. Was eating great up untill yesterday.

Havent got through all the tests yet, I doubt it was in the water. Poor guy.

Edit: Amonia, Nitrite, Nitrates - 0
SG: 1.023
Copper - 0

All other fish alive, so signs of external causes. Will rule this one internal something or other. This sucks, my hippo isnt going to be happy. They had so much fun together.

Since I know there is another Hawaii buy pending, I thought it might be pertinent for people considering participation to understand the plusses and minuses.

I am not sure what the overall mortality rate for the group was. As you can see above, some people posted no losses. But I know both of my fish died. Participating in the last Hawaii buy convinced me that I want to go to an LFS and see how a fish acts, swims, eats, etc. before I buy. I know buying direct is cheaper since you are assuming some of the risks of transportation and acclimation to captivity, but I would rather pay someone else more and not watch fish die. It makes me too sad!

Just my opinion.

I lost all of mine but part of that was because my tank crashed. But the orange bars did not last long at all.

sure you get what you pay for, but on that note, we got them strait from the ocean, they didn't pass through the LFS water, tank, shock, ick, etc, and we lost a few. I HATE to lose a fish, but I still think we are not stressing the fish as much as sending them through a store, and they were so cheap compaired to LFS...

Because most of mine died as a system crash, it was more of the end of the world scenario so they died together knowing they were going to better place.

I lost my lineatus, and orange shoulder tang from that order. My scarlet wrasse is the meanest wrasse I have ever seen, I doubt it will go into the reef.

Personally, I wouldn't do it again............ I'll pay the extra to get it from a supplier. A lot of fish are lost going from diver to supplier. I want the supplier to loose the fish not me.

I had fairly good success with the order. All the fish were quarantined for 4-6 weeks (depending on critter) before they went into the display tanks.

I still have my Purple Linkia, Mystery Wrasse, Zebra Eel and Chevron Tang.

I lost both cleaner shrimp within 3 days of the order arriving. One died during a molt.

I would order from Alex again. But as noted above, diver direct has it's own risks. By the time you purchase a critter from the LFS, the supply chain has absorbed the losses. Hopefully your LFS quarantines it's animals for you.

So 70% of the fish lost were because people didn't quarantine, had their tank crash or in general didn't follow proper acclimation techniques..... good to know!

I'm not up in arms about ordering direct. I'm up in arms about people who are just saying things to cause trouble.

I'm trying to point out that by reading the posts above, most of the fish lost were due to owner mistakes, not buying fish direct.
