Paypal protects the buyer.
Ask him to send you a paypal invoice for the Apex. If you never receive it or it arrives in a difference condition than expected, paypal will reverse the charges if he won't refund you. DO NOT send him payment with the friends/family option to avoid the seller fees. Then you will not be protected.

My three 'rules' for used equipment:
1. Get a paypal invoice; don't pay with friends/family gift option unless you know them (and where they live ). 2. If something is more than 2 years old or is no longer the current model, pay no more than 50%. Go for a new one. If somebody else pays more than 50%, more fool them. 3. I always look on 'almost new' with some skepticism, though of course it is often true; if verified, I will go up to 80%, otherwise just buy new.

Ask for pictures. I once purchased a used Apex, in working condition, BUT it had major corrosion on all the plugin areas. I filed a PayPal claim, stating water damage. Yeah it worked like he stated, but I didn't feel safe about using it long term. PayPal refunded my money and let me ship it back at their cost/shipping label.
The seller tried to fight the claim because it was "working", once I followed up with pics he stated that's the nature of saltwater equipment. False. I purchased from another member and it was in great "used" condition.

Its a older apex unit hes asking $60 including shipping. I just bought it he said the only thing wrong with it is the temp port doesn't work. I can always use the temp port on my PM2 module. My main 3 year old apex base unit failed and Neptune charged me $75 to fix. I figure $60 for a backup is worth it.
