New clam. Advice welcome !
Hello everyone ! I just purchased a Crocea clam, really beautifull indeed. I would like some suggestions on how to keep it.
At the moment in on the sand bed in the middle of the tank, moderate to high flow, 3 AI lights on the tank, lots of microfauna to eat even if they are photosynthetic. Here are some pics. Thanks for all the help |

I think they use a lot of calcium. The sand bed is a good palce for it

I move it to a higher rocky spot. Should the foot come out and attach?

As I understand it they need a lot of light so leaving him on the sand bed might not be the best long term location. One thought is you can set him on a rock on the sand bed to acclimate to your lights and then raise the rock and clam up to his final resting place.

Mine repeatedly headed for the sandbed. He'll need a calcium level of 420, alkalinity of 8.3, magnesium level of 1350. And lots of light.

Well today I found something really strange, some snails where on in the opening and I saw a string of slime coming of the mantle, the string had some color, like the one in the mantle. In closer inspection it looks like they were eating the mantle. So I need to know what happened.
The clam is reacting to movement which is a good sign Last edited by juanmanuelsanch; 04/27/2017 at 05:50 PM. |

I'm pretty sure something is eating the clam. My question is. How do I make kill it? Seems I can't deep the clam in revive. So any suggestions are welcome.

It sucks you're dealing with this after having it for only a week. With clams if their health starts to decline there is nothing you can do to stop it. You'll start to see the mantel receding and within days it'll be dead. I'm not sure if discharge is normal.

The mantel is out. It just seem a side took a hit from something that's eating it.
I will try to save it. But I need to know what I can do |

Been around a while & know when a clam is on its way out. Can't tell you why but have seen it many times.

yesterday I performed a fresh water dip for about 5 minutes. I must say today it looks better, mantle is still out, reactive to light changes, no slime or scavengers around.
I hope it makes it. |

Died. Nothing I could do. I will try again some time in the future. But this need a special quarantine since there is little you can do to kill parasites without killing the clam.

I would recommed to have it in QT and inspect it. Detach everything that is not part of the clam. There are some snail that will eat them.
