Question running 2 Gyre's on 60 inch tank

I'm thinking about buying a XF250 Gyre and match it with the XF150 I already have. My tank is 60x24x18 and they would be on opposite sides both horizontal.

Right now I have a mixed reef with Softies, LPS and only SPS is a Monti cap. I want to get into some more SPS down the line. Currently I run the XF150 at around 50 to 60%.

Is it worth it to buy another Gyre?

Let me ask some questions. Are you happy with the flow in your tank? Are you corals doing well? Does it do a good job of keeping the detritus on the bottom of the tank suspended so it can be filtered? If the answers are yes then IMO I would not at this time.

Future plans you say you want more sps. You also state you are only at 50 to 60%. If you do need more flow for sps corals then just turn up the one you have its probably plenty of flow if its turned up. If its not then consider adding a smaller powerhead or two so you can direct the stronger flow towards (Not direct) the sps and away from the softies. Remember too much flow your softies will not be happy.

Im doing the same, 2 X XF250's in a 60"x24"x24"

I also have two MP40's on the back glass, all sps though.

thanks for the response and info. Yes the flow is good in my tank right now. My idea to buy another Gyre is so I don't have to run them at full speed.(they get pretty loud at 100%)
Also I was thinking that the random flow from both side would make everything happy instead of flow from only 1 direction.

Always a fan of running pumps at no more than 80%. More like 60% is ideal IMO. The plus is those are a popular brand/model so selling one if you didn't like two shouldn't be hard.

I'm running a a 150 and 250 on a 72" 125 Gallon at 70% on each with the OGC program, as well as a 2 130's split in half on a 50 gallon 24" at 40% flow. I love the effects of them and agree; it allows me to lower the blast from one side and provide a more subtle even flow from both sides.

BRS recently switched their 160 to 2x gyres and had some interesting ideas on what flow patterns to use. I'd love to find a way to get their program to run on the stock controller instead of the apex modules but either way I think 2x is awesome.

I'm running two on my 150g and have 0 complaints other than the noise at times. A good cleaning and sometimes a knock and it goes away.

I have a gyre and a knockoff jeaboe crossflow (or whatever its called). My tank is 60". Works great. I'd recommend it. My favorite setting is the forward, backward. With one on each side of the tank, the flow pattern is always changing. They do not get clogged. IMO 2 is a must. I've maintenance mine about once int the last year.

I have the CP-40 as well I like it way better then the standard wavemakers. I just wish it was able to interface with the APEX for a more random flow.
