RO/DI filters/cartridges/resin Poll

After some good advice from reefkeeperZ on silica control, I recently busted open my Aquatic Life RO 60/100d and am now finally going to change the membrane. I’d like to switch to a refillable resin cartridge, too, assuming that’s a better/cheaper option. What are everyone’s go-tos/opinions on the best of these?

I just got a new membrane from Spectrapure.
I love the fact that my TDS coming out of it is 1-2.
I also shopped around for a second di canister and ended up with the one from bulk reef supply.

Here are my current filters. Definitely going to replace the membrane. I think the first stage and carbon are good. I assume the resin needs replacing, too. Was wondering if there were good visual signs of when these filters each need to be replaced? Thanks!

You're going to want to change everything.

Once a membrane is wet it cannot be dried out. They are bad once they are dry.

That DI cartridge is one of if not the best in the industry.

You can test chlorine breakthrough in your waste water to see if your carbon filter is exhausted but if this thing has been running for a while it should be replaced.

Good to know, thanks! So there’s no good visual cues, you just need to keep track of when they start and how many gallons they run through?
Would you recommend that DI cartridge over going refillable?

I always used the color changing di resin as a visual indicator of how my di resin was doing, but also would rely on the tds meter when it got close to looking like the resin needed changing.
I also would change out my sediment and carbon filters at the same time.

Cool. Ok so I’m gonna replace it all, thanks all for the help. On the prefilter, I’m seeing 1 micron and 5 microns. Still a little ignorant to the best number for this (and for filter socks in the sump, tbh)
Any preference/does it matter?
Any companies/brands you avoid in this realm?

It seems to me the 1 micron filter would let less possible debris through to the ro membrane.
So that's what I go for.
I use to only go through BRS, but recently had a issue with them over a rodi, so I have gone to Melve's reef, spectrapure and buckeye hydro.

Your pre filter should be at or lower than your lowest micron rated carbon block. I use .5 micron.

I use and recommend the maxcap di setup. It is better than mixed bed or color changing. Color changing is purely based on ph not neccesarily capacity.

Spectrapure sells a membrane that has been tested to be a high performer. Only membrane I'll use. I'm getting 99.5% rejection average after dual membranes.

Also, update - h2o2 drops on a patch of green stars that were covered by brown algae, wait 1 min, then returned to tank. After a day, they were full and well again. Dunno if it would work on all corals, but just thought I’d report!

Update - went with BRS stocked 1 micron prefilter and carbon, into Dow 60gpd membrane, and BRS refillable color change resin. Had a BRS coupon, which I admit influenced the decision lol. Happy so far! We’ll test the longevity of their quality and spread the word on any issues. Thanks!

Just FYI guys:
There is no such thing as a DOW 60 gpd membrane.

"Prefilters" = ALL the filters that process the feed water before it gets to the membrane.
