MP Flow vs WP flow
Has anyone done a flow compare to the MP series wave makers vs the WP's?
I know the MP has a wide flow " that i like " i was wondering if the WP did the same type of flow? |

Very debated subject. In my opinion, no, theyre not really the same. I did not have the WP-40 so I cant say how it is. But I did have a couple wp-25s and while the flow, and control-ability of it was good, it was in no way the same as the MP. I had two wp-25s and now have 2 MP-40s. The WPs are a great buy and good pumps (also open to debate, just my experience).
The flow of the MP is much more broad, the wp's are more direct. All depends on what type of flow youre looking for and how much money you are willing to spend to get it. The vortechs are louder, but I dont find them to be the grinders a lot of people make them out to be. I dont plan on switching back. All in all, it depends on the tank. Many people have switched from the vortechs to tunze or tunze-style pumps and are very happy they did. I, however, do not plan on switching anytime soon.

The WP 40 seems to have a wider end on it.

It does, by quite a bit. So it should have a wider flow, bit it is also a lot more powerful. On a comparable setting to the wp-25 it would have a wider flow, but crank it up to a comparable level to the vortech and it will be more direct than the MP. At least thats how I think it would be, ill let someone that has experience with it chime in.
A side note, the vortech seems to pull a lot more from lower in the tank, such as across the sand. A properly placed WP may do the same, but I have my doubts.

Hmm yeah sounds about right... wonder what a WP 60 would do on the low setting.
The WP40 is what im looking at to try in my 220G |

The wp40 definitely does not have as wide of flow as the mp40. However, the cost of replacing a wet side is more than a wp40. Btw , I own 2 mp40s and one wp40.

I did my own test between the MP40 and Wp40, on my 175G which is 72"L. I found the MP40 a little wider in the beginning, but the flow is not as strong as a WP40, I can feel the WP40 throughout the length of the tank, MP40 not so much. I like my Wp40 so much, I sold the Vortechs and ordered 2 WP60, for my new 300G. So I just invested in 2 WP40's and 2 WP60's which totaled up around 1 MP40W es retail price. Price or flow was not the deciding factor selling the Vortechs, it was that the Vortechs were too loud, especially on ramp up. The Jebaos are much quieter.

I have 7 mp 40s and I got two wp 60's to try out in my 300. The flow on A mp is way way more spread out. The wp 60 is ok for the price but , they are louder than mp 40s when ramping up and down. wp's also have to be mounted way farther under the water so they don't suck in air. The mp has A solid piece on top of the pump so it doesn't suck in air so easy. I think for the price wp's are alright but, the test of time is the question. You also have that ugly cord you have to stare at In the water.

Got one of the wp40s seems like a great pump flow will reach from one side of the tank to the other.
and it is pulling the light stuff from the sand bed 2/3rds of the way up the tank. Think im going to get another |

Why not just compare the wp60 vs mp40 since it's still insanely affordable vs that overpriced vortec stuff lol

Yeah at those prices Vortec is gouging the market.
I do not support price gouging. But ppl buy them so there is no reason to bring them to a Sane price. |

All the WP's have a more direct flow, they have a tunze style. They're also stronger than MP's. If I had a large tank I would definitely run WP40/60 and MP60.

I orderd 2 WP40s when they came out. I put 1 in my 75g and I gave them both away within the next week for some corals. Not because I didn't like them, but because the darn thing was WAY too powerful for my tank. I like open swim space so there was nothing keep them from tanking my corals. I just ordered a WP25. Can't wait!

Back to the original question and the first response. I have a wp40 and a wp25. The flow out of a wp25, even on high is no where near the flow of the wp40 on medium.
The plus side if the wp design is the directional abilities as too wide a path can be a problem with blasting corals that are just under the pump. Like wise the stronger narrower path could be an issue depending on what you want. ..chose your poison However using the wp25 as a comparison of the flow path of a wp40 would be a mistake.
