A little more research and I believe it's actually foraminiferans. Hey at least there is something happening.

So does that mean there is a dead crab in there somewhere ? Before I put the rocks in...I went through them pretty good...or so I thought.

It might be a dead crab in,this case would be good. If it's part of a molt you might want to set up a trap to catch it. Pretty sure black claws are evil in a reef tank

Temp: 79
pH: 8.0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 5.0
Nitrate: didn't test today
Salinity: 1.026 (35)

Pretty much nothing is happening....no movement other than my temp because it is bloody hot here in Phoenix (94 yesterday).

Day 11, 12: 3/22, 3/23

UGH...just waiting. Nothing happening. Nitrites not moving. Is this NORMAL???

Temp: 78.5
pH: 8.0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 5.0
Nitrate: didn't test today
Salinity: 1.026 (35)

Another question...I bought a wavemaker and was wondering if I should install it now or wait until I have something in the tank...does it matter either way?

What are you adding to tank to feed the bacteria?
I'd add the wave maker now so you can tune it and then setup your corals accordingly to flow needs.

Well I went ahead and put in the wavemaker and glad I did, I had a LOT of yucky stuff just sitting around in the rocks and such...it's all being kicked up now which is good. I plan on leaving it where it is for today but will reposition it over the next few days to make sure to find any other dead spots.

I am adding pure ammonia, dose it to 2 ppm and by morning it's down to 0.

Try some bacteria starter or if you know someone with a established tank ask for some rock or ruble to jump start your tank. Just be sure they don't have nasties in their tank

Patience is easier said than done, but it will happen. I planned on my cycle lasting a month then when it happened around the 2-3 week mark it was a pleasant surprise. We all feel your struggle though.

Day 15 - 3/25/2017

Temp: 79
pH:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 2.0
Nitrate: didn't test today
Salinity: 1.026 (35)

Yeah!!!! Starting to see some movement. So that's the positive. The negative is that I took out my top rock and epoxy it together (because it split) and now I see grey epoxy on my rock and it's annoying me. It looks ugly and I want it gone.

Visited the LFS again this weekend just to 'look'. I am definitely getting excited. It appears that maybe next weekend might be the time for my first little guys.

Day 16 - 3/26/2017

Temp: 79
pH:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: .25 <------LOOK!!!
Nitrate: didn't test today
Salinity: 1.026 (35)

Almost there! I will test all the parameters probably tomorrow and if the nitrites are down to 0, I will do a decent water change (my first) probably on Wed or Thur to get ready for my first 2 occupants - 2 occ clownfish.

You'll get used to the putty fast. Coralline algea will grow on the putty as well as the rocks and after you start adding corals it won't be long until they hide it. Do you have a stocking list? Its so fun to follow along with new tanks because most of us remember the excitement and patience required on our own start ups .

Jenyphur, first congrats on the tank. I too am new to all this and I set my tank up the same day but whew I am feeling I am going at this all wrong after reading how patient you are being. Also thank you for doing this I am looking forward to seeing what you do with your tank and of course following for advice and suggestions.

My story.......

Bought a 32 gallon Biocube with stand 3/11 as a bday present to myself, bday was 3/12. I purchased salt water, sand, live rocks and an additive (will let you know what it is when I get home) I was given. Left for a business trip Monday 3/13 and had my wife add one cap daily as I was told. I arrived home Sunday 3/19 and went directly to my LFS. My temp was 78.5, ph-8.0, ammonia-0, nitrite-0 and nitrate-0. I wanted to add something my wife and kids were bugging me so I decided on 2 Nemo's and 2 snails. That week everyone was doing fine but I noticed the Nemo's weren't getting along. Just this weekend I went and bought a few more fish and a shrimp. I also had to pull one of the Nemo's out being he was not in good shape he was being abused. I ended up giving him to a friend with an amazing setup and he seems to be thriving. I just ordered the skimmer hoping to add some coral in the next few weeks.

Clowns will fight to find out who's going to be male then again at female stage. Normal process unless u get a big one and a small one so they never have to fight for their sex
