Microscopic life inside a reef tank

Hey guys! i did a video on the zooplankton and phytoplankton inside my tank. Hope you like it. I'm working to identify all the organisms in the video!

thanks . I'm working to classify all of the organisms. In this video you can see cyanobacteria, amphipods, copepods (larvae and adult stage) , diatoms, dinoflagellates, gastrotricha, vorticella. Some of them are still a mistery to me. I have several hours of video that i need to edit and share! I hope to upload more detailed videos soon!

Awesome !! Dunno if it's possible or not..but maybe you could put in a little subtitle saying what the things are... I'd love to know what that centipede looking guy was.. or that tiny flower looking thing that opens up like a polyp in your video.. such amazing things in our little reef worlds

Thanks for the idea! actually the next videos will have some sort of visual info (as you suggestes) . The centipide should belong to the eunicida order but i'm still looking for the species. The flower is a vorticella.

bump for the new folks. these are some of the little creatures that need time to move in the neighborhood and start interacting. Initially we call this cycling that establishes the early form of your biological filter that converts waster ammonia into nitrites and then nitrates.

So much more is going on at the microscopic level as these critters populate and morph seeking a balance. This is part of what is meant by giving the tank time to mature when battling unwanted algae.

Hopefully the video will inspire you to drop in some of the other threads that discuss and explore the methods experienced hobbyists use to encourage the microscopic life as part of a healthy tank

I want a tank with just these, and a big screen to display the images on.

I apologize for not reading through the entire thread, but it kind of makes you second guess a filter sock, no?
