i like how you added the tabs to the steel stand, every time i build one i just counter sink holes in the ply and use self drilling screws to attatch it to the stand but are a pita, will be using those in the future

I think so, and that is heavy galvanized steel called Kindorf. We use it in construction to build everything

It is used on every construction job in the US. We mount panels, water tanks, generators, airconditioners, everything with it.
It comes in 3/4" 1 1/2" and 3", Pvc, galvanized steel, aluminum and stainless steel

Why are you replacing the leg? it looks structurally sound. Just a little rust.

Smile please help!

hello everyone. this is my first post ever i think... been a long time reader of these threads and have learned alot... anyways, i have a 250 gallon deep dimension tank ready to be delivered, and was considering getting a steel stand built. i was going to use 2x2 (1/8th thick). please review these images and let me know if there are any flaws. i dont mind if its overkill, just want a strong stand as i live on the 22nd floor of my condo
the tank dimensions are 60x36x27. i was goint to make the stand 61x37.5x31 to allow for bulkheads etc...
any thoughts?

i just got my steel stand welded up by my buddy. After reading this thread im going to have to add some gussets to keep it from raking. My tank is 30" x 30" x 36", should i just put gussets on the top only or the top and bottom sides of the stand?

After you guys have your system up and running do you wish you shouldve put a shelf inside your stand house controller, supplies,or whaterver?

Looks great jdarr. That will do the trick easily.

Do put in some thought on skinning it and painting. You might consider having it powder coated. Probably cost about $150. Tough stuff.

Now how are you going to smuggle it and the tank up to the 22nd floor? Don't let anyone see either of them!

Thanks! Clean is what I am going for! My goal is not to see a single wire under my stand once Im done putting it all together.

The bolts actually worked out really well! I used 3/8" lag bolts, I then drilled pilot holes in the top piece. The lag bolts go within 1/6" of the surface of the top piece. It is very secure.

haha, yes i am going to have to be very sneaky... i have big elevators so i hope it will be quick and painless. after reading this thread, i was going to research some of the magnetic ideas a bit... any particular suggestions with the steel stand to allow this later?
oh, and yes, powder coating is arranged. got a guy to do it for 100$

blk94rs; Thanks for the detail - figured something like that.

jdarr; Great. Only thing I could add would be that sometimes people add corner flags set flush with the outside so they can drill or magnet a little easier.

What type of primer do I use if I'll be painting with herculiner?

You have built a VERY clean stand indeed. I had the same "no wiring" goal on my setup.

I used Rustoleum Professional Spray primer on mine before applying the herculiner. I sprayed several coats to insure that all of the bare metal was covered. Having a light colored surface to apply the Black Herculiner over really helped me get the steel completely covered.
