Foam cannon

All of a sudden, 160 is overflowing, pulled volute, silencer and hose all clear, lowered water 1/2", slowed but not enough, adj appears to be 100% open, no chemicals added, stumped?

I would take the pump apart, remove the impeller and clean it. If it’s not that, there is likely something in your water causing it such as a coral and snail spawn that you may not be able to see. How deep is the sump level? How closed is the wedge pipe and how long have you had the skimmer running?

9.5” is pretty deep for that skimmer and any change is the waters surface tension could cause it to overflow. I’d suspect there is either somthing that found it’s way into the pump clogging the needle wheel or something changed in the water that’s causing the overflow. Lowering to 8.5 should make a pretty big difference though I’d still check to see if something got into the skimmer pump. I assume you didn’t dose anything different or add anything to the system in the last day or two? Any missing fish or anemones? Otherwise, I suspect it’s just a change in the water due to something spawning. Like I said, 9.5” is pretty deep for that skimmer and leaves you right on the ragged edge if something changes in the water.

Glad to help. Let the skimmer drive whatever is in there out and then you can slowly raise the level in the sump if needed. I’d just use the wedge pipe since 8.5” is usually a pretty good level for that skimmer. I’d run the skimmer wet to expedite the process of getting what ever is the water, out of the water.
