Cloudy Reef tank

I have a well establish tank and all of the sudden the water is not clear. In addition, I have noticed on some of the LPS that there is film like material (clear transparent almost like lint) hanging off the coral. Coral look fine. I'm am in the middle of resolving a running away doing pump that over alkalinity dosed my tank so I was thinking Calcium precipitation but it doesn't seem to look like it. I would have to think its some sort of Algae or bacteria bloom. Its not completely cloudy but hazy. Any ideas and how to resolve. The tank is a Red Sea max and been running for 5 years. All level are normal (except Alkalinity)

Alkalinity spikes can/will cause coral stress which can manifest as coral mucus and may also result in clouy water and various other issues...
Get your water parameters back in order and the issues should clear up..

Thank you very much. This is good information. I am slowly bringing Alkalinity back in line. Hopefully as you stated this will resolve my issue.

Ammonia can also cloud the water.

Got any urchins? Or anything else that spawns? Happens to me (bunch of urchins) every once and a while. Freaked me out the first time.

I still get this problem at times. I found out it was my snails spawning.
