What to test for when dosing Acro Power?

Hi all!

If you dose Acro Power, what are you testing for and which levels do you try to maintain? Is it nitrate and phosphate? I think Im polishing my water too much with an algae scrubber and running a bit of Phosban (neglected maintaining my RO unit).

Thank you!

Acropower is pretty much just amino acids. So there is nothing you can really test for to verify your not under/overdosing. Its going to do nothing in relation to nitrate and phosphate. This goes for anyone, get levels stable then introduce an amino acid. I actually stopped using acropower and switched to a concentrated amino acid, KZ.

Did you notice a difference after switching?

Yes in growth and coloration and I am spending much less money on amino acids now with the concentrated stuff as compared to Acropower.

What concentrated amino acids are you using instead of acropower?

KZ Amino Acids, they also make one geared towards LPS.

By my math, 32oz bottle of acropower at $32 is roughly the same amount of dosing as 50ml of kz amino at $49 per bottle.

Not sure where your getting your math from but lets assume the following.

150g tank and that one drop of KZ is .1ml which I think is about right.

So with Acropower you would need to dose 35ml per day, with a 1000ml bottle would last you about 29 days. so $31.54/29 days= $1.09 per day

With KZ lets use the 50 ml bottle. at 7 drops per day= .7ml the KZ bottle would last you 71 days. at $49.99/71 days = $.70 day. Using the 100ml bottle that would last 142 days at 79.99= $.56 a day. Would definitely like to see your assumptions on how a 50ml bottle is the same as a 1000ml bottle of Acropower.

I think your math is a bit off in the sense that acropower is only dosed once per week (or you can spread that single dose throughout the week if you choose, but the total is still the same ml)

In that case, at 35 ml per week (should really only be 30 and 6 drops for a 150 gallon tank, but we'll keep it consistent with your 7 drops), the 32 oz bottle of acropower would last 189 days. At about $32 a bottle, that would be what, $0.17 per day?

Your right then. I didnt realize Acropower was 1 time per week. Might have to try that on the 375g once I get my sps load up.

If the new stuff is working, keep using it! No reason to change if your corals love it (assuming you are moving the corals over).

I've used both Red Sea and Acropower products, and haven't seen much difference. But most of my rare acros came from Cherry Corals, so I switched to a regimen similar to what they use in order to keep consistency.

As is typical with the reefing world, use what works for you!
