Another opinion.

I have a colony of green sinularia that I got from a fellow reefer about a month ago. All has been well with it. Today when I got home from work, I noticed that one side of it was not opening up, and dropped down. I figured no big deal the lights had just came on recently and it just needed a bit to open up. Just came back down to look tonight and it is looking worse. The base of the sinularia is turning black. I'm thinking about cutting off the affected coral and trying to cut my losses. I have seen stuff like this happen and spread through hole colonies of other types of softies. Just looking for someone to back up my thoughts before I go through with it. What do you think? I will get a pic up.

Being that black is usually associated with necrosis, saving what you can is probably in both yours and the corals best interest right now.

I just touched it to see if it was getting soft and a layer of the black skin peeled off. It doesn't stink but, I'm cutting it.

Hate to have cut out half of this coral. Hope it does not spread to the rest.

oh no that sucks I have that happen to a new yellow fiji ...sucked big time.

the fluo green are much difficult to keep in good shape... getting black means its has an infection mostly its dying so frag the good parts but give it first a coraldip. Be sure there is no any black on the frags....

I bought a very large green leather off craigslist once and about a week after buiyng it this same thing happened. It eventually began to drop all of its tips and "fragged" itself. I collected all the frags and threw away the trunk. I sold all the frag tips and kept one which is now growing happily in my tank.

I would recommend removing black parts and cutting off the good "tips"
