Thanks,
I built the ATS and run it more or less from set up, well within 2 weeks of start up.
I already had the SM HOG on my previous tank and transferred it over. The SM HOG is cleaned in rotation with my waterfall scrubber.

Les, what kind of nem is that? I would say RBTA but it looks kinda different. Never kept any nems myself.

Correct Jim. Strange thing is I sold one of it's offspring the other I gave to a friend. The one I gave to my friend regularly has large bubbles while the mother I have only tends to show small bubbles or at times none at all. I use Oxydators as said so my redox and O2 is always high, not sure if that is the reason for it's lack of bubbles or not but maybe.

what kind of house is that? I like it. is the inside smooth or ripped?
about how long from start did you see grow on your SM. Hog? I ask, as I just started a DIY upflow ATS on a month old tank.

The acrylic box is clear not rippled what you can see is some of the water running down inside. The screen went through various stages and variety of algae growth on my first tank as I had used secondhand old rock. The new one is growing mainly GHA with some small amount of other slim algaes

uploadfromtaptalk1464614851428.jpgI have sort of the same set up in my sump. Been going for about six months. Works great. The only thing I'm having a problem with is light overflow. My water lines are starting to grow algae in them. And a little in the sump. I'm in the process of building a box to contain the light. Other then that it's great

Yeah I got a bit of that as well in my previous tank. It would be easy enough to add some plastic black shutters around the frame of the light if needed.

A few close up SPS corals and frags.

Sorry about the pic quality all photographs taken on my phone.

This last one was the stump (what was left of the coral after it was completely fragged down to the trunk) of a Strawberry Shortcake SPS. I bought it about a month ago and as you can see it has healed over and showing some decent growth.

Royal Gramma's

WOW! That's a turn up for the books. Both newly introduced Royal Gramma;s were out at the front of the tank as if they have been in there months.they were put in my tank just 3 hours before . Could I get a pic or would they bolt before I could approach them to take a pic? well here is my answer, Both RGs out swimming together and never flinched as I took this pic.

good job! so did you find a male and female? how can you tell the sex?

oh and I was talking about the inside on the ATS tubing. is that smooth or ripped. I ask as I do like it but hear spa flex type ( then non smooth inside type ) can get sh*t built up in them as cause problems. that all hear say tho...

my upflow ATS is about 10 days in the its still white can can be.
does that sound normal for your hog experience? i know every tank is different but i thought i would have seen something on there by now. there lots of alage in the DT.

nice tank BTW I was just reading your post on your stocking method.
what region did that midas blenny come from? I am looking for a nice yellow one. and L.A has so many area to choose from.

They had 6 in but all in different holding tanks. I simply observed each and choose 2 one slightly larger and a little deeper bodied than the other. I won't know if I have a true pair for a while how long I don't know. However I have successfully paired 3 sets of RGs in the past this way.

The black corrugated (on the outside) tubing is not corrugated inside but it is slightly rough not a polished finish inside.

I would expect to see at least a darkening of the white surface even if only a slime type covering, providing you have it set up right with the correct lighing etc.

The way I see it as well.

WOW! I stumbled across the following vid on YouTube quite by accident as I was watching another vid I was looking for and this came on right after. What amazed me is that the vid says so much about how I do things (often in my head to start with) my thoughts on reefscaping, feeding and more. And BTW yes there is no reason why you can't achieve similar results all be it much smaller.
