Sump plumbing
So I’m about to start plumbing my sump has any one used a check valve at the top of their return line that would open when pump is off to stop siphoning

In reefing check valves are frowned upon because they WILL fail, generally @ the most in opportune time.
Make sure the sump can handle a shut down & you are all set.

I would be using it at the end where the water flows out so when pump is on it will close and when off open

If the valve closes when the pump is on how will the water flow?

It would be on a t before the end the sprays out if needed to clean I would shut down pump and unscrew by reversing the flow when the p on it close and when off it opens to let air in. Instead of just leaving the end spray forward it would screw on a 90 degree fitting

OK - you did not mention it would be out of the water flow or be used in reverse.
Makes sense now & in this case I agree.

Continuous yes, until the flow stops, then they sit full in a chamber of water until the flow starts forcing flow again.
