I tried making a few mini icebergs for my system just to add some realism, but the bases kept slamming into my corals and broke them.

I guess I'll sell those frags.

You might add one of those antarctic reef fish, notatheniods, that has antifreeze in it blood. It will swim in and out and may perch on your corals. Just keep the tank temp near zero. Might have to get a bigger chiller.

That's not going to happen this time, I'm getting into the next set of high-end lawn gnome LE lawn gnomes first. I just bought my first bunch of Antarctic Corals, and they look great! They're snow white, just like creatures from Antarctica are supposed to be. The polyps are so clear I can't even see them.

I need some advice on how to keep them so bright and white. I guess I should feed them Arctic Pods, since they're from the arctic too; is it better to get them frozen? That'd be better for such cold water lawn gnomes right? The guy I bought them from suggested I buy an Eco-aqualizer, because the magnetics in it will help magnetize the aquarium water the same way it is at the South pole. This sounds silly to me, I don't want to get ripped off. After all, how can a lawn gnome tell if the water is magnetized North Pole or South Pole? Just in case he's right, does it matter which way I have the water going through an Eco-aqualizer? I'd sure feel dumb if I got it backwards and ended up with North Pole water.

Also, if anyone can ID them for me I'd really appreciate it. I've found some pictures that kind'a look like my lawn gnomes, but the coloration is all wrong and I don't want to jump to the wrong conclusion. I'm going to start them low in my tank, I don't want to light shock them and have the RTN. Anyone know how much flow Antarctic Corals need? Probably not a lot, too much might damage the delicate polyps right?

Thanks for any advice you can give me. I'm looking forward to growing these out. Maybe I can say thanks by sending out some frags once the colonies grow!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you payed for them?

Understandably... they were mere frags back then. They must have grown into extensive colonies by now. The growth rate on these are phenominal!

Actually, I've started thinking that I got fleeced. Before too long they started turning pink and this weird fuzzy green. I've heard that unscrupulous vendors would bleach out anemones then dye them -- now it seems they're doing similar things to corals and selling them as "antarctic."

Next thing you know, we'll find out that Japanese corals aren't from Japan or LE corals really aren't limited at all... but what are the odds of that, really?

Oh, and they haven't grown a bit.

I know, and it just makes me sick. As soon as something becomes popular, the vendors start to increase the pricing to increase their profit margins.

Argh.

I wish I'd jumped on this when it was first posted. Now I can't afford to get on board.

I've heard AEFW don't survive on these corals. Seems like the perfect kind for me to keep.

It's the start of winter in the antartic right now. They'll start growing again around November.

Oh my god I needed this. Made my day!

Has anyone considered using the dishwasher to keep their "arctic" frags clean? HAHAHAHA

Perhaps. I prefer just to store them in dry ice for a few days, or a 30-minute liquid nitrogen/lugol's bath to remove any AEFW.

I've tinkered around with the idea of putting a Freon reactor on my tank. Do you think a Phosban reactor filled with bioballs would work?

I found a picture of an artic reef in the wild. Norice the tangs with their summer colors. They turn white when winter approaches.

One of my friends just found out that all his LE corals were Antarctic corals! Everything was colored up just as he paid for from the pictures of WYSIWYG and then just a few days ago the color (dye) washed off, reveling their true origin. I tell you, the look on his face when I told him his good fortune is one to remember!

Brought back 2009's Aprils Fools thread

Any posts on any "growth" of these frags? Still storing in the fridge?
