Affordable UV sterilizer for 340

Hi all,

I have a 340 gallon aquarium, and am researching uv sterilizer options. It seems I need a 40 watt. I read to find one you can easily replace bulb without having to disconnect plumbing.

Im searching and finding them as much as 700 bucks. Are there any worthwhile ones around 200?

Thank you

Nope. You need something with high wattage that ALSO has a long exposure time to the light. UVs that nail these requirements and perform admirably are from Emperor Aquatics (now known as Pentair) and they make a 50W High Output version that is fat and has 2" input/outputs that do NOT require you to disconnect from plumbing. There is also an 80W version that is 4' long and not that much more $.

BulkReefSupply and others frequently have them at 10% off, but $700ish is what you should expect to pay for one that does its job correctly.

I know a few people that have this one and they do like it. Its the one I bought. No need to remove plumbing as the bulbs slide out.
Do a search for this and you will find the page that has tons of UV info.

TMC 110 Watt Professional Large Pond/Aquarium UV Sterilizer/Clarifier- $399.99

this is the one I use on a 300 gallon display. I only keep half of it plugged in and it works wonders.

I use a 55W on my 220. I wished I had got the wiper.

Here is the one I got for my tank (approx 800g total) http://www.americanaquariumproducts....html#110wattmc

The 110w model is what I purchased. It's $399 so not the $200 you want to spend though.

You’d want the 80watt minimum

If it can help combat parasites then spending the few hundred extra will save you long term. I’ve lost many of thousands $$$$ and countless Fish lives due to parasites. Ich has always been in my system, and doesn’t typically effect my established fish, but sometimes new Fish get more stressed and succumb to the sideffects of stress/ich infestation. On my next tank 900-1200g I will spending a few hundred extra to get a solid, correct size UV to help combat along with proper QT which I do Always now
