New Start

Well, I even can't find where is my originally build thread. In short, since last January I went into an on/off relationship, my reef tank maintenance was basically suspended. Well,I'm now back to the ocean world.

This is how the tank looks now. I know it isnt sps but it's always my favorite. this is a new one--the one I had ended up in an mp10

now my sps

2 fast grower red planet+forest fire digitata

some nice ones:

ora panope birdnest--I have to confess I do have a problem spelling those ora names. would they name em traditionally?

ora hawkin's echinata

its base got rtn. I tried to kill the aiptasia and only accidentally fragged it. already put 3 berghia nudibranch+8 peppermint shrimp in. it seems to be recovering

unknown coral but cool 1

unknown coral but cool 2

aussie fat milli. has yet to color up

tyree pink lemonade. got the yellow tips but the polyps need to be redder

some more corals:

these 2 have yet to live at their full. they showed no pe no growth for past few months and now are making their comeback

ice blue tabling coral with red polyps

red/pink coral with yellow coralites and green polyps. the vendor named it sun explosive milli. totally missed the focus. the wave was strong at reefcrest peak

superman milli

cali tort. well, i dropped it and then dropped a rock onto it when reaquascaping. ugh, most of its tips were broken. replaced so still acclimating

I've found your build thread; its here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2338994

(If you ever want to find an old thread you started, just click on your USERNAME, Select VIEW PROFILE, then click on STATISTICS, then click on FIND ALL THREADS BY M Woodhill. That will bring up threads you started)

But keep this thread as your main thread now. It wont get lost here in the SPS forum...the main forum is far too busy for build threads.

Your SPS look amazing. You are honestly doing VERY WELL. Got a few questions which I hope you dont mind answering:

1. Are you still running the Zeovit system?

2. Other than the basic Zeo components, what other KZ Zeo additives are you dosing?

3. What is your T5 tube combo?

4. What are you current PO4 and NO3 readings?

Many thanks. Seriously, keep up the excellent work you are doing with this tank. I will be following this thread closely for sure. Was quite a joy to see how well your SPS are doing. I especially love how nice your Cali Tort and HAwkins look.

hey dude, thanks for finding my thread back--ok I'll stay here

1, I'm still running Zeovit system

2, none, just bak, start3, stone, carbon. for my best knowledge, as long as there's sign of algae and no sign of paling, you don't need any supplements

3, t5 is front to back:

ati blue plus
ge 6500k
kz purple
ati blue plus
ati blue plus
ati blue plus
ge 6500k
ati blue plus

dawn and twilight=kz purple+ati blue plus

4, I have yet to test. it's my first time to try dry rocks and they did bother me. When it's totally soaked, it released tons of phosphate into the water and nuisance algae thrived and sps turned downwards. And when the algae started to fade, they literally exploded my skimmer and caused big ph and alk swings--which were more fatal to sps and anemone. That must've caused my ritteri to wonder around.

Well, I'm back now will test regularly and maintain regularly

The 2 main hospitals in London usually see you within 4 hours. Used to be much worse, but they have improved over the years.

season's greetings--doing well but was damaged during the reaquascape

new arrival--green cap with purple polyps

ora rainbow pocci

ora stubber stag

right focus of the sun explosive milli. really cool

Your corals are generally in very good health and exhibit quite good colour, being that they are mostly only frags. Love the Seasons Greetings; that looks pretty sweet.

As for the tank; - Just kidding.
Scrape the glass regularly, then it wont become such a large job. Also, the algae growing on the side and bottom glass, turn all pumps off, scrape it all and then siphon it out. It a form of nutrient export itself.

Hope you dont mind the suggestions.

Hey dude. Thank you for the suggestions. I woulda scraped the side glass clean if my finger hadn't been cut. I kept the green lawn on the front for purpose. I don't know what the algae is but it isn't cyano or hair. It grows like the pattern you see--brush and when you touch it, it's quite hard. Pods love it. I always try to keep some part of my bare bottom for it to grow part. And I actually like the feelin.

Things will be improving lol. Next time will be way cleaner and sleeker

That's pretty cool the pods love eating on the lawn. Means you should have LOADS of pods around. If its easily controlled, then there is no issue having it in the tank.

I experimented this algae for a while. It started in the last stage of initial stage algae outbreak. And it's gone if the wave is too strong.

Tested some water parameters:

Mg 1300--ok. I used io salt mg reading was above 1500

Phos 0.05--a tad higher than ideal. Faster the flow of zeo reactor

Salinity 35 ppm

some more additions. the tank is refilled up

the algae is striking a small comeback because of my increased feeding. glass cardinalfish needs to be fed a lot. But the corals seem to be better

the superman mille is showing the ice blue tips but has yet to show redder polyps.

this aussie frag is getting nicer

more neon green tips are shown

this is really my favorite now. the coral is getting more ice blue while the polyps are redder and bigger. sorry for the bad focus. mp is really strong

new undata. it's started to encrust

sorry for the bad focus ;-) I need stronger hands. ORA Shortcake--my favorite ssc variation. IMO stronger lighting makes ssc greener, opposed to ORA's description online

Cali tort seems to be moderate to fast grower

ORA purple stylo. Quite blue in my tank

my clam

and my signature

thanks guys. some simple tests:

po4=0.05 a week ago. a tad high for me so I adjusted the flow of my stone reactor and will test tomorrow

salinity=35 ppm

mg=1300

ca, alk to be tested

Looking good! Despite the corals being frag sized they still have very good colour. Zeovit is working well for you.

It's my first time to start zeo as opposed to the instruction with dry rocks. I've learned quite a lot and will apply the acquired knowledge to my next setup ;-)

Thanks dude. The finger is so fine and wasn't that bad. The family doc should've simply given me a tetanus shot rather than sent me to ER.

I'll get the front side cleaner. I'm wondering how those 3 sided clean tanks were cleaned.

My fetish of love for change kicks in--as usual. I ditched the t5 for mh and will reaquascape this weekend. will thoroughly clean up the front glass. the biggest concern is my anemone--which hates change and my meter shower--which has encrusted on the bottom glass

Ok, new light new look

I return to my tradition lighting and everything seems way happier. T5 is great but I have yet to master it so MH+actinic stays as my choice insofar. It looks actually bluer than my t5

will bring some better fts later

totally browned under t5

way fuller pe:

some faster growers:

red planet--basically grow under any lighting

ora purple stylo

my favorite--whatever lemonade

and two versions of ssc. both are still acclimating

ora ssc. when it came, it completely browned out

original uniquecoral ssc. this one goes by contraries, totally paling

both of them throw out lots of slime at tips when I feed my fish frozen Mysis. Don't know. anyone has any ideas?

i ditched my t5 for hamilton cebu. i'm liking it way better. no comparison though, just a personal preference. but my corals are liking the bright illumination from xm10k too

2 fts i really have to improve my photo skills or the frags are shadowed in a big framework because of their size?

some sps

color and pe really improves on my ora purple plasma

pink lemonade now looks like what it's supposed to

fire and forest digitata looks more orange now

unidentified big purple acro with neon green polyps
