What is this stuff?

Hey everyone,

What is this? I got the tank from someone else and it’s almost like nothing else can take in the tank cos this stuff just takes it over?
Should it be kept on an island rock alone or will it spread anyways?
How to get rid? (Physical removal only?)

I don’t mind it but it’s just too much...

Green star polyps. I don't know how to get rid of it. Manual removal may be your best bet. It should peal off the rock. It will spread over sand or rock. If you want an island, keep pealing it off.

Thanks

Been reading how it takes over and my tank is a extreme example!

Anyone tried, Fenbendazole?
Sounds like it the atom bomb for the stuff and everything else like physical removal etc fails.

Only issue is I do have crabs snails and cleanup crew! No way can I get them out of the tank

My pencil urchin would happily eat all of it. I know that because I tried to introduce some GSP into my tank and the urchin ate them (caught him munching on the plug).

You think if I bought one they would get through all that to the point of eliminating it that it never comes back again?
I’d happily buy one if it worked

With as much GSP there is from what he posted in another thread, I would have to agree. However, perhaps manual removal and add a pencil urchin to make sure any small bits that were missed get eaten.

Also my pencil urchin is 5+ years old, the test is about 3" in diameter, so it can eat a fair amount.

+1 for manual removal. I had to do it in my tank. Take your time, be really careful when peeling it off. It will be dificult to get it out of nooks and crannies. Use a dental scraper or a sharp flathead screwdirver to pick/scrape it off of stubborn spots. It's a real pain, but it can be done.

A nice soak in about 1 part bleach to 1 part water will kill them too. But it will also kill anything living on/in the rock.
